Not the best weather today for my first quick outing with the Loxia 21mm. A few little storms came and went...here is one from in-between storms. I used a CPL to cut glare/reflections and used 64 SR snaps for the main body of water. Everything else is from a 1/4 shutter.

QUOTED IMAGE

First off, congrats on the Loxia. And what a great capture!

Second, I'm jealous that some of you live in areas where storms come and go, several times a day. The problem with southern California (I know, i know, count my blessings) is that we get 9 months of cloudless, white, muggy skies. No drama whatsoever.

there's Zhiyun-tech Gimbal version 2 seller off ebay and it's $100 less brand new. i was going to buy but watching a few unboxing videos in youtube, the ebay seller has a different box design. I'm holding off the order. I ask the seller why and still waiting for his reply.

the pic of the gimbal itself is right though.

anyone see the deal on the SY 35mm? 299 in cart, already 100 off the MSRP, and the way it should be.

Thanks and thanks! Wherever I live it will be my goal to make my region look appealing. My biggest frustration with my new Georgia home is that, apart from lakes and streams, it's very difficult to get landscape photos of open spaces like y'all have out west, or like I had back in KC. This region is pretty densely forested.

The whole thing has got me in a dilemma that I haven't been able to put to rest: To gain more views I would love to gain some mobility on the water. A "fishing" kayak would be great for maximum stability and comfort. It would open up a lot more landscape vantage points than I currently have near my home. But that would come at high cost - would cost me at least my Batis 135mm. It's not just the cost of the boat, but for the Thule or Yakima rack and rollers for my Prius as well as I'd need to build a shed to house it. Would it be worth it? I'm wrestling hard on it.

The other thought - as Gene suggested the other day - maybe I should grab a FE 100-400mm GM to gain yet more reach. It wouldn't get me more locations, but it could provide even more compositions as well as the occasional bird, snake, beaver, etc. I'm not a fan of the big telephotos for most of my areas of photography interest, but for outings on the lake it might be very useful.

Haha...I deleted my drone idea post. Everytime I consider a drone I have second thoughts.

What's the worst that can happen with a drone?
FAA knocks on the door 'Mr. Arbogast, our logs show you were harassing local wildlife'.....
of the county sheriff knocks on the door 'Mr. Arbogast neighbors have complained about your
drone flying too close to their bedroom windows'.....
OK, it's late, excuse my poor sense of humor.

My greater fear is my past reality, a fly-away. That's what keeps me away from another go at them.
Plus I do see greater and greater gov. regulation, and the owner having to submit monthly flight logs
for review as an example.

I did write Laowa.
Told I'd buy if they could get me one before Aug 30th.
Sorry they told me but can't help.
Probably best to hear real world owner reports which will be out by the
time I get back.
So on the trip if any Milky Way opportunities present it will have to be with the
fly by wire B18 :(

Too cute!
And on the file, well you've shown the a9's file can be worked....yep more effort than the a7rii that's for sure. More proof to me that those two bodies
go well together in the bag/Pelican.

TRhoads wrote in post #18423657 (external link)
this is my logic...there will be times that the 7r2 and its DR are needed...and times that the speed and AF supremacy of the a9 will be needed...I keep telling myself this, over and over...as I work toward it...someone else mentioned selling two or three cameras to buy one...when all the dust settles, it will be two cameras, 4 lenses and a filter to end up with the a9...seems kinda silly when put that way!

I think the a7III whenever it drops will be a good balance between the a7rII and the a9....maybe a bit less resolution than the a7rII, slower than the a9, but faster operation and better af than the sluggish a7rII, and without the IQ penalties of the a9 (more DR and better high ISO performance)

But I need two bodies either way, and its nice to have such complimentary cameras on hand.

Batis 85mm found new owner today
Instead B85 will add FE 55mm to FE28, gaining even less weight and size for weddings and travel.
