I went for a tour at the historic Bidwell Mansion in Chico, Ca.

Tripod and flash are not allowed so i was forced to shoot single raws exposing for the highlights. Here's a before and after using LR only.

Robert asked earlier how I add a small blur to my images that are over sharpened. This is a quick video on how I do that. This method can also help reduce those light 'halos' at the edges of sharp contrast such as where mountains or ridgelines meet the sky.

Hi all, as I'm new to sony scene a question... how do sony normally price their new glass?Do they release at a premium and then reduce 6 or 12 months later? I thinking of the 200-600 soon but dont need it urgently and wondering if it's worth waiting? From a quick google it was released Aug this year. I'm also wondering if it might be included in black friday discounts?

Any insights appreciated.

Did I tell you guys/gals I was run over?
Seriously. I dropped Poof off at the hospital (well really I hung around a while until she went to pre-op), then I went home
to check on the cats and decided to get my steps in.
I took off and 1 block a way a major high-school (like 1200 students)....it was when the school day was ending.
I was (walking) crossing a road to get on the walking path and a cheerleader in a car looked 'right' but turned left and accelerated.
Problem was I was to her left and in the middle of the road crossing it.
I remember hand planting on the hood of her car then tumble rolling to the asphalt and then a Indian woman saying 'don't move'.
I tried to get up but could not.
Then another man saying 'EMT is on the way, I'm directing traffic'......
Long story short, you just never know!
I'm fine, didn't even get a bruise from the car hood or the hit and roll on the road.
Made it in time to pick up Poof (5 hours later) and woke up the next day with nary a bruise (good living?).
Well no one else to share with but you all and Poof....the cats don't care.

Good that you are ok!

I think Nikon will exit the camera business at some point. They've been posting huge losses for years and still continue to decline after the Z cameras, which were were expected to turn things around, were released.

They have some obscure, undefined strategy going forward about releasing products that enthusiasts and hobbyists will enjoy... To me this sounds like a greater emphasis on higher end FF mirrorless cameras.

The problem is thst Sony already has a comprehensive line-up of FF mirrorless cameras and lenses in the market, blanketing everything from entry level cams all the way up to the a9II. Sony will always lead on the technological front because they literally own the sensor market. If Nikon's branding wasn't enough to differentiate the Z cameras and drive sales, then I don't see how anything Nikon releases in the future will succeed.

Https://petapixel.com …-existence-as-a-business/ (external link)

It was reported in 2017 (external link) that the Japanese Government was asking Fuji to buy a part of Nikon to help them out. They were worried a foreign company could end up buying them.

Things do seem very bleak for Nikon and I think if they released the right product, they could still save themselves but it doesn't seem likely. A lot of people used to say Nintendo were doomed and might go bankrupt, especially after the Wii U was released. Then they came out with the Switch and have been killing it since.

Considering they already rely on Sony for their sensors, maybe they will end up selling their camera division to Sony.

Just a big thanks and hug to everyone here. A crazy thing it was.
At my age roll off a hood and roll onto asphalt and not even a bruise...just
got back from a walk and NOWHERE near that school! Poof walked with me
which is even crazier but she won't be put down either.
Again I appreciate everyone here.

Prices don't seem to come down very much. FE55, which launched with the original a7, is still selling at the same MSRP at launch.

In terms of black friday deals....there were heavy discounts on bodies last year...lenses saw minimal discounts. Biggest discounts came from third party lenses.

I think Greentoe is your best friend!

First image (well, first scene) from last Saturday. And my first frost of the year too! So glad I have found somewhere so local for when the conditions catch me out last minute! Annoyed that it's taken me so long to find though!!

Interesting contrast between the warmth of the sky and the cold looking ground.

I'm happy that it's 84° here right now though. ;-)a

My 'Forest' background arrived (one day shipping) so I placed it on my BG stand about 3' behind me. I didn't bother to remove the wrinkles (it came folded up into rectangular squares) for this image.

I did use a radial gradient to darken the bg a bit in post. I also did a .2 pixel Gaussian blur to reduce sharpness. I think it will work out fine taped to my block wall but I'll give that a try later too.

Either way, I'm not out too much as the BG cost a total of $9.78 including shipping.
