Well, crap, my focus missed - got the ear in focus, not the eye - but I don't care. I just wanted to capture a moment I have been waiting months for: Our two rescued cats accepting one another and snuggling.

Mindy (named after Mindy Kaling from The Office), the dark tortoise-shell was found starving and abandoned while were were picnicking at a West Point Lake park in June 2018. We were not planning to keep her, just wanted to get her some food and get her to the shelter. But, we fell in love with her and after a few days deciding to keep her. We were stunned that our yorkies accepted her, since they always love to chase and bark at cats.

Again in August of this past 2019, I was taking a walk in the West Point city park and I ran across another pitiful abandoned kitten. Again, we had zero intention of keeping her and tried, unsuccessfully, to persuade my aunt to take her (though she did give her a name: Parks) But, once again we decided to keep her.

When we brought Parks home, the yorkies again quickly got used to her, but it took until the last month for the two cats to fully embrace each other. Now, they make a tremendous racket playing hard with each other. Warms our hearts and give us laughs!

Two is our absolute limit. We cannot rescue any more cats at this point.

Interesting approach. Almost 2 pounds. Doesn't gas me up but I can see others getting inflated.

I love it when I get gassy..... I have a great set up of lenses and cameras and other accessories. I think for the first time since I got back into photography I really dont "need" anything but of course "want" is a different story. This year the 40 1.2 is on the list and i would still love a tilt shift option but for other fun I could......

Sell the 100-400 $1800 and get the 70-200 2.8 @2600 ....and then the 200-600 @ $2000. To make room in the bag I need to get rid of stuff so the Tammy 28-75 @ $700 would probably go as well as the 90 macro @ 700 So a net of -$1400

I might need to revisit that 70-200 but I thought when I had it for a few days I loved it. Love my 100-400 but the 1.4x tc lives on it and that makes me question if I shouldnt just get longer in the 200-600

Just fun gassin

If you know anyone with a .edu, the 70-200 is pretty heavily discounted through B&H.

Excellent composition Lee

Thanks guys. First time we've been there. Weather was overcast when we arrived so walked the 4 mile route 'backwards' as I thought if the sun does come out later in the day, we'll be on the south side of the Tor ;)

Random question here but when I'm shooting in Manual and look through the viewfinder the pic is obviously dark. Is there a way that when I'm in Manual mode when I look through the view finder it's exposed okay?
Almost as if it was in Aperture Priority.

I have a Sony A7rIV

navydoc wrote in post #18989119 (external link)
You'll need to turn on/off the "Live View Display". On one setting, the viewfinder shows you exactly what the sensor will record and the other will show you a properly lit view in the viewfinder, even if the scene is very dark.
I highly recommend Mark Galer's free e-book that describes all the cameras features.

Here's the page in his book that covers what you need. I control that by adding it to the function menu. You could also use a custom button.

so if you turn that off...it gives you the feeling of an optical viewfinder? forgive me for being not the brightest...but why would you do that? I quite like the WYSIWYG concept of the EVF...it is just another tool that helps me see the light that I am capturing...and I find it really annoying when it doesn't work with strobes.

If you're purposely underexposing the the ambient light (which typically do whenever I use strobes or flashes) live-view will produce an overly dark image in the viewfinder.

Also if you're stopping down in low light, turning live view off allows the lens to focus wide open so there is more light for the AF system to focus with.

In my experience, as soon as a trigger is on the hot shoe, the EVF gets bright and never really changes...
I also thought that it always focused wide open...I have also seen it brighten up the EVF to assist in finding focus when you are intentionally underexposing...

You probably have the exposure compensation set to ambient and flash. This is the default setting. I set exposure compensation to ambient only as the default setting will screw up TTL

I found that out the hard way myself.

I discovered something else yesterday.

The power saving "sleep" mode does NOT work when the camera is laying on it's back.

are you sure it's not the IR Remote setting? That keeps your camera on, and it wont shut off

14mm.. not easy on the streets for people btw.

took the sigma 14-24 for a short walk after work

i'm using LR's "auto" feature to straigten out the image.. some times it works better than others
