I was off today so I drove an hour to another state park to do some scouting and shooting. The morning started off with some blue skies but quickly turned to snow which made for some fun hiking and shooting. Snow is still very new to me. Prior to moving to Colorado, I really only seen a handful of times. Still trying to figure out how to embed video from Smugmug here.

One of my favorite memories growing up was sitting by the fireplace keeping warm on cold cold snowy winter nights. I used to sneak down to our family room in the dead of night and lay in front of the fire. Felt sooo good. Wish I could relive that, but it’s just never that cold here and the little fireplace in our early 20th century house is inoperable.

Enjoy the snow! Looks so lovely there in CO. :)

In other news...I give up on the Edelkrone...B&H has already approved the return...indoors it works pretty good...outside...not so much, and I want to use it outside...I might add a little Syrp Genie to still do timelapse pans...but for the most part...not gonna fool with it...deciding now if I want an A73 or the 16-35GM...

I know it'll only pan rather than slide, but can you not use a small star tracker that people use for Astro?

An image from the Smokies this past fall...this spot in fall typically has very little water so it was nice to have just enough to make an image out of it. 3 image focus stack, I also applied "Enhance Details" to all 3 frames.

This one was a big score for me. I only get to see n.Harriers when traveling far from home. Last year at Bosque and this one on the Nov-Dec. trip to the mid-Atlantic, Fowler Beach Maryland.

Really nice, Robert. It appears that the R4 does BIF pretty good. Do you feel confident with it in that role?

Tracking a fast bird in flight at 840mm = amazing skills. I don't think I would have been able to keep it in the viewfinder, let alone get a focus lock on it.

The Syrp Genie just pans and is not much bigger than a donut...easy to setup and probably what I should have done to start with.

Mighty kind of you Lee...thanks.

I'm new to shooting aspen trees. This one was catching the morning light. Definitely have to visit this place in the Fall.

Thanks David. So far so good. I did fall twice yesterday. Need some ice crampons.

Nice shots! It’s not everyone’s preferred style but you considered using your 85mm for street?

Yes actually a year and a half ago.. I spent a good while with the 85gm.. that's when I was working within 5 minutes from time square and taking 5he subway to work.

Now I'm working upper east side (quiter part of nyc)and driving. So there have been less opportunities, but trying to push myself

Anyway. Yes 85mm is awesome for street once you get a feel for the working distance

You still own the 85mm GM?

Yeah when I do shoot street I like the look of a long Tele, I’d love to get the 135GM just for street. I know if a few people on Flickr who use 85/135 for street and love all their shots.

Wow what do you want! Ha!
I've learned a trick. When in Zone focus, push the joystick up, pushing the AF square up....get less AF misses on the ground below. Works
on water too where the AF is seeing ripples and wants to jump from the target to the water. Won't happen in AF Tracking but that mode takes that half-second to get
lock where Zone does not. Sometimes that 1/2 sec. matters.
