I had the pleasure of meeting a fellow POTN forum member this morning in Auckland.

Dan (DLEE13) was in Auckland for a wedding and dropped me a message about catching up. Unfortunately, I had knee replacement surgery on the 16th of December and was unable to drive anywhere to take him to some spots around Auckland for a shoot, but we managed to catch up for a coffee this morning as I went back for my first day of work.

Great to meet you Dan, next time you are here I'll be able to get around a bit more :)

Cheers

Gary

Gary, that's so cool. Hope you are recovering from your knee surgery slowly but surely.
I met Dan last July in Sydney when tripping around OZ for a month! Such a cool thing to meet some POTN members.

Yes, he was telling me about meeting you, awesome :)

Knee is going well. 4 weeks today from the surgery, so still swollen. Will be on crutches for another couple of weeks, but getting around.

"The Dance"

I need lots more practice shooting woodland scenes but this one caught my eye. I enjoying "seeing" past the subject and imaging characters in the trees. These two remind me of pair of dancers.

Thanks again for making the time to meet up Gary and buying me tea! We’ve loved Auckland and definitely plan to come back so we can go shooting Astro next time for sure!

Maybe next time you’ll manage to have snuck in some more surprise gear too! Haha

One of my favorite memories growing up was sitting by the fireplace keeping warm on cold cold snowy winter nights. I used to sneak down to our family room in the dead of night and lay in front of the fire. Felt sooo good. Wish I could relive that, but it’s just never that cold here and the little fireplace in our early 20th century house is inoperable.

Enjoy the snow! Looks so lovely there in CO. :)

turn on the a/c full blast and lay in front of the fire jkjk :P

This is one of the woodlands that we usually visit. There's also a (locally) "famous" lone tree to the left out of shot which is normally photographed looking across the pond. Yes, I've done it - & I want to do it again with a REALLY stormy sky!

This time of year the sun rises to the right of the frame & that is what I want to catch soon. Bit of sunlight just catching one side of the trees. In the summer the sun is probably straight at the camera on the left side of the image.

Oh. This was also FE85!! Was raining so didn't want to swap lenses & the decent hood covered the front too :)

You still own the 85mm GM?

Yeah when I do shoot street I like the look of a long Tele, I’d love to get the 135GM just for street. I know if a few people on Flickr who use 85/135 for street and love all their shots.

yes I own the 85gm.. though it hasn't gotten much attention lately.

but now that you've brought it up , i'm feeling like taking it out for ssome street photos , hopefully the abnormally mild weather continues
