my a9 lives in silent electronic shutter...I have gotten so used to it that I flinch when I hear the shutter on the r2...

I have my "delete" button programmed to toggle between silent shutter. I assume it returns back to mechanical shutter when out of silent mode?

Off topic.

My research on my buddy's Ansel Adams 79 year project has taken a frikin awesome turn. It turns out the Mural Project was inspired by a post civil war photographer that was surveying the west. Ansel was truly inspired by the guy....... who took pics 70 years prior.

Needless to say I am engrossed in documents and heading back to the Archives in Tucson for more digging at the Center for Creative Photography.

Meanwhile here is a AA quote for us

"I never try to limit myself by theories; I do not question right or wrong approaches when I am interested or amazed - impelled to work. I do not fear logic, I dare to be irrational or really never consider whether I am or not"

Ansel Adams 1932

One handed use? That is big in itself. I like you can easily (or more easily) see in the dark....way better than the little round bubble of old.
Seems a true landscaper (not me) would want to at least try this.

As many times as I have been out to shoot sunset...and as many times as I have preached the concept of stick around...this one caught me off guard...I had been shooting for 45 minutes...the sky had really mellowed out and looked like it was over...I was shooting looking east catching some really nice pastel blues and pinks but not loving it...turned around to head in and saw this...I nearly dropped the gear in amazement...this was shot at 5:51...26 minutes past sunset...it was incredible...

I don't know if anyone else has wondered where some of the names that Zeiss uses come from...Milvus, Batis, Otus...I have...they seem like such odd words...a friend is a Zeiss Ambassador...and was talking about using a Milvus lens, and I made the comment about wondering where the names come from...they are all latin, relating to birds...birds are known to have great vision, clarity...so it makes sense to name your lenses something to go along with great optics.

Milvus...the genus for Kites.
Otus....the genus for Owls.
Batis...the genus for a certain type of bird in South Africa.
Loxia....gensu for birds in the finch family
Touit...genus for neotropical parrots...

That makes me like them just a little bit more...I like that thought process...

Landscaping with the FE 70-300mm.
We were eating in Glennallen and missed the good light. Should have been there 20 min's before.

I enjoyed both of your recent shots Travis. Yeah that after sunset burn can be quite nice as you have captured.

I delayed posting this one from an earlier trip. Glad I did because I like this edit better than my original unpublished edited one.

Need some help. I am not getting in focus eyes. I have tried Sony 85mm f1.8, Sigma 105mm f1.4, Tamron 28-75mm. Here are my settings? Do I need to change things? Any tips/suggestions much appreciated.

Focus Mode (C3 button default) - AF-C
Focus Area (C2 button) - Tracking Flexible Spot M
AF with Shutter Button - OFF (use AF-ON instead)
Pre-AF - OFF
Eye Start AF - I thought this is always ON by default, isn't it?
Eye AF by Custom Key - Not Using
Switch Left/Right Eye - Set to AEL
AF Tracking Sensitivity - 3 - Standard
Priority Set in AF-S - Focus
Priority Set in AF-C - Focus
Aperture Drive in AF - Standard
Face/Eye Priority in AF - On

Last shoot, I saw green ||[]|| in the center of the frame. Then small square for the eye, I assume eye AF working fine but eyes not in focus. Focus looks more on the chest than the eye. What settings you use for kids, people shots?
