"Frozen Lake"

I stepped onto the ice cautiously calculating each step knowing that under all this ice was a lake. It was surreal. I remember the faint crackling sound as I moved forward into position to get this foreground leading back to the mountains. Dream Lake is what this lake is called. Sure felt like a dream being out there.

While it's a great one Alfredo, no photo is worth risking your life for. As they say on Hill St. Blues, "Just be careful out there".

Brave!! Worth it though ;)

Thank you Lee. There were other people who walked in the lake so I figured it was safe.

Thank you Gene. I hear you. These are alpine lakes so they have at least a foot of ice on top but yes I am always careful out in the wild.

Thanks so much David! Glad you enjoyed them. It was a fun adventure into the mountains. Hope everything is going ok with you. By the way, I returned my Sigma 35 lens. I needed to fund some parks to fix my tripod.

So as much as I love the 16-35mm GM, I think I may sell it.

I’ve always wanted all primes and the price of it is still hurting my wallet. I’m thinking of replacing it with the 24mm GM and the Samyang 18mm f/2.8 as a real light weight travel kit.

Not sure about us prices but in the uk the 24GM plus the Samyang 18 is the Same cost as the 16-35GM. The 24GM is a great looking lens though, I have been tempted by that myself

Great image, but no way would you have caught me out there! Was there at least someone playing some dramatic music in the background like they do in ice road truckers!?!?

Thank you. I didn't hear any dramatic music. :-) Just my heart pounding.

Here the 24GM is $1830 AUD on sale and the Samyang is about $650 so so $2480. I paid just under $2600 for the 16-35GM which was on sale down from $3100 AUD so I am definitely getting good value here too.

Any reason you haven’t just bought it?

I've been using the 24gm for near two months now.......... I'm a big fan. Had the 18, and unfortunately, I had to return, AF wasnt good enough for my liking..... yeah, I know, it's 18mm, AF is generally not that big of a deal at that focal length, but it bothered me, so I'll just continue on with the 17-28, which is generally very nice and small as the 24GM. 17-28 is more useful, while 24gm is a total wow factor, the images that you can produce with that are very nice. The distortion, I embrace it.

That was my backup plan too if the 18mm doesn't work out, get the Tamron 17-28. I have been so tempted by the 24GM after trying it and I feel that focal length with the f/1.4 aperture gives quite a unique look.

In saying all this, the 16-35GM is a really amazing lens and honestly hard to fault. If all lenses are full price, I could get the 24Gm and Tamron 17-28 and still save money over the 16-35 GM.

Sigma are rumored to be releasing 7 new FF Mirrorless lenses based on a patent

16mm F2
18mm F1.8
18mm F2.8
20mm F1.8
24mm F1.8
28mm F1.8
35mm F1.8

I don't plan to buy the Samyang 18mm any time soon so that 16mm f/2 or their 18mm would be interesting.

I have the Voigtlander 21/3.5 for landscape.

I have the Samyang 24/1.4 for Milky Way.

I don't ever use the Samyang outside of that use just incase I like it & it means I'll want the 24GM :lol:

hahaha good idea! I might scratch out the 24mm marking on my 16-35mm to reduce my temptation too :p
