Joining the forum. Hello.

Been shooting Canon for years (have 2 FF's and about 5 or 6 crops plus a whole bunch of L glass).

But came across a Sony camera on a deal I could not resist.

Got the sony RX10 III for $419. Currently on BH for $1398 (external link).

Nope, no scam, no aftermarket, it was legit. Just happened to be in the right place at the right time. A major retailer decided to empty the warehouses of the III and focus on the IV's,
so they had an unannounced nationwide sale. $980 discount. I'm told the sale lasted about an hour or two until the warehouses were depleted. Right place, right time, could not resist.

Glad I did it. Absolutely incredible camera. Incredible features. Picture quality, with PP, rivals the Canon crops and comes close to the Canon FF's.

Still learning it... why I joined the forum. But so far I am beyond impressed.

I remember you from the Canon days. Welcome to the Sony forum!

"Morning Rush"

The clouds were moving at a quick pace over the Rockies as the light penetrated some cloud cover to highlight the peaks. I remember trying to setup my tripod which had a broken leg while watching the battery life slowly drain. I'm still shooting with the a7RII with the older batteries which just don't last too long especially in the cold. As I was completing my long exposure, I got the dreaded dead battery message. I popped in a new battery which I kept inside my jacket and reviewed that last image which was a long exposure shot with the SR app. Thankfully, it was just slightly under exposed preserving highlight detail. The clouds continued to race over head as strong wind gusts blasted me in the face along with snow and ice. Quite a morning rush I tell you.

FE 16-35 GM

By the way, I did have my Loxia 21mm but didn't use it on this trip because this was an initial visit to this national park and I needed 16mm to capture the scene. The shimmer in the foreground is the frozen Emerald Lake.

Wow! So awesome Alfredo. :)

I’d imagine the 16-35 GM is just too versatile and excellent not to use on your outings. Also the smoother rendering (less microcontrast than Loxia) lends a look that I really like for snowy mountain scenes like this.

Thanks so much David!

Yes, that is a very good point. I prefer soft ethereal look to my winter images and I think the 16-35GM works nicely for that. You can't beat its versatility too especially shooting in a new area and when the light changes quickly.

Let me know about the overall brightness of this image. I feel it needs about a half stop exposure but didn't want to blow out the highlights in the snow. It was a bit tricky to edit this image.

While breathtakingly beautiful, all that snow almost makes me glad I live in Southern California. ;-)a

Haha! I don’t blame you Gene. The snow makes for wonderful photo opportunities but man is it hard to get around in.

Beautiful shot... cumbersome snow or not. Love the way the clouds are just touching the mountain tips!

OT: Was born and raised there (Burbank). Been in NC for decades. Was just in SoCal for a funeral a couple weeks ago. First visit in 15 years. It was a zoo. HORRIBLE never-ending traffic on the 5, 14, 101, and 405. Just horrible. Don't know how you can live in it. I got better things to do besides spend 1/3 of my life in a car.

I certainly agree with you regarding the traffic in So. Cal. but fortunately, I've lived in Riverside County for many years where the traffic isn't as bad. It also helps that I'm retired now so don't have to deal with the daily commute to and from work. For 10 years, I worked for Riverside County and daily might drive anywhere in the western half of the county.

And while it isn't the beach, the weather here is warm and sunny most of the year. It will be 78° here today and 81° tomorrow. 8-)

I have the Canon 16-35 III which is amazingly sharp on the A7RIV. I'd love to get the GM and dump the adapter, but I just can't bring myself to let go of the Canon 16-35 III because it is so good.

I was that way with the f/4, I loved that lens but I don’t feel the corner sharpness was as good adapted.

If I was you I’d probably make the switch, the resale value might drop a bit with the RF 15-35mm being out.

I'm a bit north (685 km) of Gene, but we run into heavy traffic going to and from San Francisco. It's even more fun on the weekends when all the tourists come to drink our wine and then try to drive home.

Like the Los Angeles area, timing is everything. Driving in the San Francisco Bay Area can be challenging too.
