It's even more fun on the weekends when all the tourists come to drink our wine and then try to drive home.

That reminds me I have wine club pickups up at Bella and Ten Acre that I need to go get. :-)

I wait to get home to enjoy though. I learned to spit a long time ago. I like my insurance rates where they are.

Wow! So awesome Alfredo. :)

I’d imagine the 16-35 GM is just too versatile and excellent not to use on your outings. Also the smoother rendering (less microcontrast than Loxia) lends a look that I really like for snowy mountain scenes like this.

The rendering of the GM is something very special...I am trying hard not to rent it for DV....but I get the feeling that I probably will anyway...

So despite not finding a buyer for the 16-35mm GM yet, the 24GM was on sale for $1859 AUD ($1243 USD) so I kinda bought it already ;-)a

I’m filled with happiness at now light and insanely sharp it is, but filled with fear about not finding a buyer for the 16-35...

This copy seems noticeably better than the one I tested a year ago, not sure why. Only thing I don’t like is the aperture ring. I wish Sony did what Canon have done with their RF lenses and made a customizable control ring.

Just curious how many here on POTN Sony world shoot reception/low light events?

I'm dusting off my 5dmk4 as I will be shooting an event in an almost low light candle lit restaurant for a big to do 50yrs celebration. If it was in a "better" lit restaurant I'd use dedicated Sony gear. In this recent situation I truly cannot. I really dislike manual focus when I'm forced too due to laggy shutter and brutal AF hunting.

I was considering on using remote flashes for the venue with my Sony but I just feel tiresome with AF hunting.

Instead of godox I'll be using my Cactus setup with RF60 Cactus speedlights with built in transceivers for remote flash. I really need to get battery packs for the dreadful, oldschool AA batteries setup.

I'm forced to use my Canon. I will bounce flash or deactivate the head. Using AF-S aka Canon world "Oneshot" I am 99.999999% confident I will get incredible tack sharp images with zero AF hunting in the absolute brutal lighting.

Today I extensively tested my Sony A73 with Gmaster 16-35mm with Godox V1. Using AF-S and activating the red focus grid on the Godox V1 was VERY inaccurate and soft in my deliberately dim livingroom. I tested many shots and if I took my time (sllllooooowwwwly) the images hit rate was better. I mimic my "in the zone" run/gun documentation mode and the AF-S was definitely very very poor!!!

In you average decent lit venue / reception in a hall or Chinese restaurant the Sony would be fine. However some venues I am still trying to understand how a dedicated Sony shooter performs his/her workflow.

My brain still operates in extremely high keeper rate almost never missing "moments" using my Canon. This is where I have more options in deleting/culling images. With my SONY I've now had some events where I had to rely a tad more on MF and focus peaking and my style of documentation starts to take more effort in extra work for me.

Odd how i do not get stressed with friends/family documentation in low light situations. However when i do paid events my stress get's elevated because I know as a fact I will miss some shots with my Sony. Interesting how some of my photog friends will openly admit to me and say the same. However they can tolerate some missing pivotal moments to their clients but achieve just enough to provide images to tell a story. Some started to incorporate the Canon EOS R and now they've sold it due to my same concerns. They went back to a 5dmk4 and 1dxmk2 combo.

I'll be bringing dual systems. I'm gonna use my 5dmk4 with my beautifully flaring :) EF16-35 f/2.8mk2 in remote flash situations. I prefer my 16-35 f/2.8mk2 over the newer Canon 16-35mmf/2.8 mk3 in remote flash events work. Remote flash work with my Sony and Gmaster 16-35 isnt' my preference either. I'm just gonna lug my A73 as a secondary camera on my hip using my spider holster (as usual) and use my Sigma 35mm f/1.2, 85 f/1.8 (deliberately purchased the f/1.8 for better low light AF than the Gmaster 85mm) and throw my Gmaster 16-35mm as a backup. The 85 f/1.8 is so tiny and i may not even use it due to the small intimate restaurant club.

I really do prefer the GM24mm form factor over my Sigma 24 f/1.4.

I will say the latest July 2019 firmware update 6 months ago for the Sigma 24 f/1.4 ART E mount really improved the AF speed that prime. I do not have a GM24mm to compare it with but the newer firmware was definitely a refreshing speedy upgrade!!!! the older firmware had this ever so slight delayed slow feel. Now that laggy feeling is gone. I know the GM24 f/1.4 is zippy fast in AF.

I use my Gm16-35mm alot for my workflow and general use. I'll be buying a Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 as I am really struggling with the tammy 28-75mm wide end of 28mm.

Any reason why you haven't sold the 24mm Art in favor of the GM?

I was planning on renting the 24mmm Art to get a feel for the FL but ended up just buying the GM as I had used it before and didn't find it THAT different to 35mm which I am most comfortable with. After my last trip and using the 35mm f/1.8 since, I feel I won't really be missing out not having the zoom and I can easily make do with primes.

It's soft at 28mm? I remember mine was really good throughout the range. Before buying the Tamron, I remember reading conflicting things about the performance on the wide/long end so I there is a bit of copy variation.

I didn't really plan to get any more Sigma lenses but if they do make that 16mm f/2 from the patent I will definitely give it a look.

Honestly the Sigma 24mm ART really provides amazing IQ from all of the images I take for my application. Getting the GM24mm was a very high consideration and I've had many opportunities buying it. The IQ between the two are probably neck and neck and any difference and unlikely not noticeable after post processing minimally. I wanted the GM24mm because of the more responsive AF and then it was the smaller form factor. I wanted faster AF in the Sigma 24mm ART .......then the new firmware update changed the AF speed :)

You can always consider the 14-24mm f/2.8 ART for a tad more versatility but marginally slower glass and probably more pin cushion/distortion vs single prime. Not sure what your application is .......

I work my GMaster 16-35mm or any UWA very hard in perspective and angles when I shoot. My Canon system the 24-70L f/2.8mk2 is virtually brand new and seldom ever used. I was willing to "experiment" with a Sigma 24-70 ART E mount. In fact today I was side tracked and did not pick my Sigma 24-70mm lens up. What is odd is that I hate using adapted glass with my Sony system. However I much prefer my MC11 adapter with my Canon 24-70L vs my E mount Tammy 28-75mm on my Sony A73. Latest firmware with my Sigma MC11 and Canon 24-70L f/2.8mk2 seems to have done some strange laggy shutter speed when there is ample light.....not sure what is going on???? Not a big concern as I'd rather use native glass anyways.

As long as you’re happy with the 24mm Art is what counts! I didn’t really consider buying it purely because of the size and weight. The 24GM is one of the mode unique lenses considering the quality it offers for the size/weight. It also shows how far Sony have come in their lens technology.

I looked at it but for zooms I prefer Tamron so would go for the 17-28 if anything. I also use front filters so the 14-24 would mean I need rear filters too. The 24GM will be my all purpose travel lens so the Sigma 14-24 wouldn’t work for me.

The MC-11 isn’t perfect but does well for what it is. I originally wanted to stick with all Canon glass but decided to go all native for the better performance. Hopefully you enjoy the Sigma 24-70 when you get it!

Yes...the GM24mm is still on my list but at this moment it's less priority after the new Sigma firmware. The 24mm ART is tolerable in weight.

I couldn't make it to the Camera shop today....now I'm just thinking I'm better off buying a Sony A7r4 and use my 16-35mm in crop mode :) That's been my internal debate. Unfortunately I'd see if the EOS R5 rumour comes true with a 40MP sensor to natively adapt to my EF Glass :) I will very likely pickup the Sigma 24-70mm ART based on the 24mm wide end vs 28mm. I do prefer the Sigma bokeh a lot more than the Tamron 28-75mm zoom.

"Solitude"

I shot various compositions from this lake and ultimately settled on a bit tighter shot to frame the mountain range with these large pine trees. Again the clouds were just wonderful the morning I captured this. I stood once again on the frozen lake to get this shot.

Surprise bday for my Aunt.

R4 + Sigma 35 @ 1.2. Really love this combo. Just wish Sony gave us the ability to choose RAW sizes. Instead of either having the full size or forcing down to use crop mode.

Also just got the new peak design travel tripod from the Kickstarter campaign. Here it is next to my current tripod with Markins Q3i ball head. The peak design being carbon is lighter but what’s more impressive is how compact it folds. I’ve never had a tripod fold this compact before. Truly an amazing feat by them. Looking forward to taking this out with the R4 for some landscape shots.

Alan, I not weddings but I do use it in the studio which is dark. No windows and only got two small tube lights above. Yesterday I tried AF-S and it seemed to be slower to focus. Yes I am now using BBF. Then a person on FM mentioned that on AF-S camera will confirm focus using contrast detect. The week before I used AF-C and it had worked better. Since these cameras can focus to -3EV (with f2 or faster glass), why even need a hot shot flash on the camera? Another thing is this mysterious 'Aperture Drive'. Now on A7rIV you can set it to 'focus'. What I hear is that it means camera focusses wide open. I didn't know Sony did not do this before. Even now there is not any detailed information as to how this works. I can see that even using my tamron 28-75mm f2.8, this menu option is available. Maybe I need to test it out to see if camera really is opening up for focusing or not.

Why don't you share the settings you use? Sony 85mm f1.8 focuses fast. For focusing, I would have picked Sony 35mm f1.8 instead of Sigma 35mm f1.2.

BTW - Sony has changed hot shoe again. My Plus IIs don't work at all on A7rIV. I thought it was my settings but I confirmed same settings and same Plus IIs work on A7rIII and A9 but not on A7rIV and A9II. Wish various review sites mentioned these important things. Now a days most reviewers are either in bed with the companies or for the click bait kind of stuff.
