So the 16-35mm GM was officially sold today!

I been trying to use the 24mm more despite it raining today and I’m really liking it. When I took it out yesterday I didn’t feel limited by the focal length and the lens IQ is amazing.

I will say I am more used to 35mm so when I’ve gone to shoot something, I’ve instinctively been at my 35mm distance.

Did you fix it yourself or through a 3rd party repairer?

I repaired it myself. It didn’t take too long.

"Ascend"

This is the landscape oriented version of my 3 skiers image. On this one I went for a bit moodier edit to add additional drama to an already dramatic scene. Again, the 3 skiers can be found on the left. They were going up for another ski run and therefore I titled this one "Ascend".

Since I made the original 16-35GM rendering comment I’ll respond.

My meaning was that these ethereal snowy scenes wouldn’t be visually improved (imo) by the additional microcontrast provided by the Loxia 21mm rendering. It was not meant to suggest that the 16-35GM produces an ethereal rendering.

I agree David, I think the look is actually very visually appealing, I like them quite a bit.

Got my tripod fixed with my new Markins base plate. The new base is on the left. The crappy Gitzo one is on the right.

New base plus leveling base plus ballhead. I won’t use the leveling base all the time.

That looks to be a significant upgrade to the Gitzo base !, How does the weight compare between the two?

All

Anyone using the Canon 17mm TSE on a Sony body? I have the 24TSE for years but sold it at one point, was always interested in purchasing the 17 but the cost was ridiculous so I never did. Recently came across a used copy at a really great price and I'm now reconsidering it again.

It would be primarily used for architectural work and almost exclusively for shift. I have some concerns about corner sharpness of this lens when shifted however so if you can comment on it it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The subtle color contrast of the muted orange peaks against the steel blue gray sky is spectacular. Incredible Alfredo. :)

Almost bought a FLM leveling base, but what I didn't like was it didn't come with a level. A leveling base without a level. Didn't make much sense to me. You have to buy the level additionally that fits in a slot on side of leveling base.

So I went with the RRS leveling base with built in level, (one piece) but Kirk makes the identical leveling base. Hindsight, I prefer the way you loosen and tighten the level base on the FLM over the RRS or Kirk. .

Wish I could comment on the 17 but the 24 was great when I had it. Image with 24 t/s and A7R. Can’t get this shot anymore as the new Fulton street station blocks the front of the freedom tower.

Always a compromise isn't it!!

I've been tripod researching for a while. Nice weight, clip leg locks. Twist locks, not tall enough. Good height and weight, £900!! Nice price, no level on the legs.....

:-D:-D

I'll get there one day. Currently looking through the Benro range.

My current one is something like maximum 53" & 62" with centre column. 2.5kg weight - 1.9kg for the legs, 600g ballhead.

The Markins base is just slightly lighter than the Gitzo but such an improvement in quality. It’s machined out of one solid piece of metal.

I haven’t bought the 17mm TSE but would like to one day when I get back into commercial architecture. I love the Canon 24mm. You do lose a bit of sharpness when shifted to extreme.

The Freedom Tower looks gossamer, almost transparent wrapped in the reflections of blue skies. Fantastic shot!
