Tonight has been the first clear night in several days, the air is clear and cold at 36° at 8:30 this evening with no wind. The Moon was almost directly overhead so finding it on the LCD screen was a challenge. I used AF to simplify that process. This is a single exposure.

Sony ILCE-7RM4 + FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS + 1.4X Teleconverter + crop mode. 840.0 mm x 1.5 = 1260mm equivelant.

Already preordered!

They 'fixed' 99percent of what I felt needed correcting (especially considering it's not cheap for a fixed lens camera)

Congrats! I'd really like to hear your thoughts as I'm in the market for a landscape lens by this summer. I'm stuck between this and the Tam 17-28 which is a similar focal length to the 16-35 you sold.

Interested, it looks like an excellent upgrade to the F.

But won't be buying one anytime soon since I picked up my used X100F about 9 months back and I'm perfectly happy with it.

Contrary to popular believe there is not much difference in colors etc. Yes eye AF makes life much easier. And with mirrorless there is no focus/adjust errors. And no anti-aliasing filter.

Good old 5dc with 35L.

Thank you for posting these - it was interesting to see! I feel like I'd recognize that 5Dc shot anywhere, but I can't decide if that's really true, or if I'm just seeing what I want to see. It seems to have that ineffable quality that I've become quite familiar with, but it's also the only shot in that list with the sun somewhat behind your subject, which was a very preferred comp of mine when I was shooting a lot (esp. people) with my 5Dc. So, is the "ineffability" quality I'm recognizing the backlit comp or the 5Dc + 35L combo? lol! It could be the light or your processing, but this shot feels the warmest and most "real life" to me, which I like. Like I could reach out and touch him in that photo. I also just really love the 35mm focal length.

My second favorite shot on this list of yours is the one of him in the white shirt with stripes, shot with Fujifilm X-T1 (I think?) - "only" 16 MP? Oh gosh, I wonder if I'm realizing that I have a preference for lower MP cameras? Ha!

I’m going to attempt to hold off until the price drops a bit. Having said that I’ve already been eying up some 0% interest deals :)

Congrats! I'd really like to hear your thoughts as I'm in the market for a landscape lens by this summer. I'm stuck between this and the Tam 17-28 which is a similar focal length to the 16-35 you sold.

I think this would be a perfect opportunity to visit a store and check both out.

In my particular case the Tamron 17-28mm came out after I purchased the GM16-35mm. Since it did not exist at the time I was in the market there was really only the native GM16-35 f/2.8 for a fast f/2.8 option.

Questions you should ask yourself is if 28mm is long enough for you for other purposes. 17mm is only 1mm difference than 16mm but some may find an issue with that.

Once you hand hold the 17-28mm and want small form factor you may just be over the moon in saving $1300 USD vs buying the GM16-35mm. The Tammy 17-28mm is tiny!!!

I use my UWA zoom lens for general purpose. 35mm is extremely important and is worth for me to go with the GM.

In post processing I think in many cases IQ wise the Tammy vs GM can be equalized and almost on par. The thing about lenses is we all may have some sort of preference to how the glass renders. For example my recent purchase of the Sigma 24-70mm ART zoom, it seems to render different to all of my Sony dedicated glass. The colour and render is much more pleasant straight out of camera vs even my Gmaster 16-35mm or Tamron 28-75mm.

If I wasn't so stuck on requiring 35mm on the long end my "sensibility" would push me to go Tamron and use the extra cash on other lenses to supplement the gear bag.

I know this is the Sony forum.....

If you cannot let the 5dc render go I'd suggest going Fuji aps-c. The new Fuji gear will surpass the 5dc by a HUGE margin in low light performance due to sony sensor inside. Also the cooked raw files from the Fuji engineers have this easy on the eyes look even when using standard preset for jpeg and SOOC RAWS look cooked compared to a Sony RAW file.

Sony render is extremely real to life if you honestly compare it to Canon or even Fuji. If you analyze any post processed image you will find all will NOT look true to life "unedited" eyes you see. The whole point of editing files is because RAW files are brutally "raw" with no fluff/buff.

If you compare wildlife images to Fuji and Sony they will look quite different. This is also the case with human subjects.

If the X100V had the A7r3 resolution that would open up avenues. A crop mode would have 18MP files with a 34.5mm FL. This would provide much more flexibility in crop.

If the X-t40 existed it would have the same X-pro3, X-T3 sensor. Buying a tiny 23mm f/2 interchangeable lens would be great and you have option of using other glass.

Last summer I was in Parksville, BC. There's a store/food fair building with Goats on the roof trimming the sod roof. I was talking to a Fuji shooter (my previous hardware in my gear bag). The guy was using an X100f? he was standing on the picnic table outside. He had a love/hate relationship with a single fixed lens body as it was his small travel camera. If I was still a Fuji shooter and was adamant about size I'd go X-t30/23 f/2 and also throw another small prime in my pocket.

For a Sony shooter seeking extreme versatility with small form factor with f/2.8 DOf…..Tammy 17-28mm for travel. Even better if you're a A7r4 shooter you can go super 35 mode and have 25.5mm to 42mm in a push of a button.....ALL IN ONE!

Personally I feel 5dc had the best look from 5d series cameras. Even with just the center point, it was awesome camera. I felt same when I got Fuji XT1. It was small, light, retro dials and made photography fun. Next big step was getting Fuji GFX50s. No other cameras felt the same as these. I should add Canon 1dmk2 with 5dc as once you hear that 8fps mechanical shutter you wonder why folks now a days want silent shutter.:) I Know this is Sony thread but I would say Sony still has some things missing. For me, I can't pinch/zoom on A7rIV when viewing my shots on the LCD. I can do that easily on my Fuji. I go nuts when I am viewing a shot in portrait mode and then press the zoom button, it rotates back to landscape mode as that's the only way zoomed shot is shown. Small thing but one of those why oh why. Prior to this A7rIV, I felt the bodies were too small and cumbersome to hold, especially with heavier glass. Tech wise, it is perfect. I am still hoping Fuji releases an update to GFX50s in 2021.

Not sure what is a cooked RAW file. I am using both with LR and C1 and in both Fuji RAW files look the same to me as Sony. Once I have some time, I will do side by side shots.

BTW - I was reading an old article about GFX50s on fstopper. The author said, he found that colors from GFX50s were a bit off. He used to shoot Nikon. Then he did side by side and also compared to real life subjects and guess what, Fuji was the real life. Personally for me I don't care much. One of these days I would be proficient enough in PP to adjust colors. For now it is mostly defaults for me.:)
