Do you plan on printing them yourself or sending the files out? I'm at the point that sending them out for printing seems like the best option to me. Of course, I haven't considered printing my family photos that I've scanned the negatives of so they are either uncropped or cropped haphazardly. I could send all the negatives in to be printed but many need some sort of restoration for color fade, dust, scratches, etc.

Gene, I send them out to get printed. I use a company called Loxley Colour and the prints are always good quality. My personal preference is 'Lustre' finish with a 1/4" white border all around. I feel that prints that dont have a border just look unfinished or something, or more like a snapahot (personal preference thing). I considered getting a printer previously but when I realised the cost saving wasnt that much I decided I couldnt be bothered with the hassle

EDIT - Maybe having a printer would mean I would do it more often though!

3 copies should have been enough if it wasn’t for me formatting all 3 drives :D

We use onedrive at work. It’s really good. I sync my desktop and my “my docs” folder and it means that I can jump on any computer or even my phone and quickly open up files that are saved on my work laptop, really handy. I think I read they do a 2TB personal version so I need to look into that (I have between 1 and 2 TB of photo data to backup)

Glad everything worked out for you. I had a similar scare when I switched to the surface book. I still think cloud based backups are worth having because as you experienced, you never kow what might happen to your physical backups at home.

I have onedrive at home..mostly because it came with ms office hah.

But for cloud backup of raws, backblaze works best. Unlimited storage for $6USD.

For backing up and cataloging edits, flickr pro has unlimited storage. The uploadr desktop app automatically syncs the directories I save jpegs to and sorts them into albums by the directory names. They're uploaded as private photos so if I want to share anything, I just pop in and set it to public. Really cool

I have two printers but neither prints in batches, or at least I've never tried to do that. While both hold multiple sheets of photo paper, I don't think I can have either print more than one image after another automatically. Maybe I need to look into that. I don't print photos often and when I do, it's been for enlargements of at least 5 x 7. For as many photos as I have, 4 x 6 would be more cost, and time, effective.

My negative sizes are 35mm, 110, 120, 220, and 4 x 5.

Here are my printers.

I suppose they migrate down from Alaska, and possibly the Yukon ???

Canada mainly. There is a nice write up about it here:

And tons of really good info here about birding in the Klamath area in general:

Along with the birding, it is a great area for landscaping as well.

It snowed here this morning...I really had no idea it was going to...so that meant we had to go out and take a few photos.

RRS has two brackets, lite one and another one for $200. Anyone know the differences? I assume for both with bracket installed I can still open all the doors?

On topic of skimping, I have no issues with $10k lens or $10k camera but I have problems with $200 bags.:) When RRS bungled the Fuji GFX50s bracket (some due to Fuji's putting that battery where it is), I went for cheaper looking ones and they worked pretty good. For my XT1 I had $30 something which worked like a charm, still have it. If a thing doesn't look good, fit well, it will be in the trash and at least for the cheaper XT1 bracket it worked out as well costing a lot more.

Not sure which you are looking at but likely the more expensive version includes the L-component and not just the base, if you do a lot of verticals using a tripod the L-component it's a no brainer.

These two from RRS, both have L component

Looks like the $200 one there is additional base under the battery compartment. And L part is separate.

BTW - Anyone using these Sony cameras in the studio? The AF is still not what I thought it would be. It is little faster than my GFX50s but not like the day/night difference which I had expected. I don't see many people using Sony in the studio as very hard to get detailed information. I will see if I can borrow GFX100s and do side by side tests.

The lite version is one fixed piece. The more expensive version is two pieces that allow you to use it just as a base plate as well as a regular L plate. I have and like the more expensive version for that reason. Also it allows me to position the vertical part slightly away from the side of the camera body making it easier to open the little doors and connect any cables. YMMV

The beauty of my works office 365/one drive deal is that I can install office 365 on my own pc too for free :)

Even better than paying for it haha.

my off site copy is just another external hard drive that goes to my office and stays in a firebox there...I fill up somewhere between 2-4 TB a year...those cloud storage services would cost me a fortune to backup all of my images and would take an eternity to upload...

I been thinking about keeping one of my external hard drives at work as an extra backup.
Isn’t Backblaze meant to be unlimited and a reasonable price?
