with the A7RII at ISO100 you can go +100 on the shadow slider.

The dock is for updating firmware and adjusting micro focus? I don't think focus adjustments would be an issue but don't know about firmware updates.

Yeah, just wonder if firmware updating might help it work better via mc-11 adapter. You have a dock Gene?

An a9 is scheduled to arrive on my stoop Monday.
Can I not use the LA-EA3 and the 70-400G2.
We also have the FE70-300G to experiment with until the FE100-400 is released.

This reminds me of something I said to self not too awe-full long, that if Sony could give up native 400mm
in e-mount I could leave Canon. So that process has begun. I do hope for an updated e-mount 400/4.5 or F4.

Oops, had a question and forgot.
Which card did you choose for the UHS-II slot?

Well a 400mm is rumored to be announced shortly. They're expecting it to be a 400mm f/2.8, which will be huge, heavy and costly. I'm thinking $10k?

My cards need some updating, lol. But I don't shoot in long bursts, so for the moment I'm just using the Lexar 1000x that I bought in a 2-pack. A friend of mine is trying to get me a hold of the new Sony UHS-II at a discount, but those are ridiculously expensive. I mostly use 32GB cards. I think the amount of times I'll actually use the 20FPS I'll be able to count on one hand.

A9 DXO mark score is out, at 92. About what I was guessing it would be. I was thinking the 90-94 range. I knew it wouldn't hit the DR nor the portrait color depth of any of the 36MP or higher Sony sensors. Surprisingly it bested the a7rII for low light and is just behind the a7s. It does seem that Sony has sacrificed DR and overall IQ slightly for speed as well as performance at mid ISO.

At base or ISO up to about 1600 the a7rII is noticeably better according to the charts. Once you hit ISO 1600 it seems to be about even. Which makes complete sense. For base ISO shooting the a7rII can't be beat. For high ISO the a7s can't be beat. But from say 1600-12,800 the a9 seems to compete very well. Which makes sense since if you're shooting in sports scenarios, say at 2.8 and 1/1000 or faster, you'll be at the mid ISO range more often than you'll be closer to base.

Personally I don't read too much into dxo mark scores. Some people treat it like it's the end all be all. But to see a competitive product that just happens to score overall higher than the 1DXII and D5 (1DXII scores higher on DR and D5 higher on color depth) is nice. Overall from a useability standpoint the a9 though factoring in speed, ergonomics, and features it's just a more complete option for me personally. I'll take the slight decrease in IQ to gain everything else, but that's just me. For others that value IQ, the a7rII and hopefully next iteration will be a better choice (though I'm not sure if you guys are really looking forward to a 60-80MP sensor), it seems like a lot would be happy with a9 speed with the current 42MP sensor and say 8-10 FPS.

Well you know me. I don't know or understand any of the technical to these levels you just wrote. All I need to hear is that the alpha9 is very close to the 1DXii in most respects and I'll be good.
Personally I don't want a 400/2.8. I'm having trouble wielding the 500ISii, but I understand the Olympic/NFL people need/want F2.8.

My local park just down the street captured with the Loxia 21. SR app to smooth out the water. Everything is so green here this time of year.
