To those with Sony 24mm f1.4GM lens, I have a question for you. I have recently acquired this lens and already asked Charlie for his opinion but wanted to get other feedback as well.

When I set the aperture anywhere between f2.2 to f16 and half-press the shutter, I can hear "like grinding noise/sound" from the front of the lens. I can actually see the aperture blades opening and closing and believe that's where the sound is coming from. Below video is very similar to what my lens is exhibiting as well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAMGMVSz8v8 (external link)

When my aperture is set between f1.4 to f2 and half-press the shutter, I don't hear the sound nor do I really see the blades moving.

I reached out to Sony Support today and was told that this was abnormal and needed servicing. I checked FM and some people hear this and most don't. To those with 24GM, are any of you experiencing this? If the majority are not experiencing this, I am definitely sending it to Sony for repair. But if most are also experiencing this I have to reconsider sending it away, as I will be without this lens for at least couple of weeks (they sent me Fedex ground prepaid label and said it would take 7-10 days to repair, then shipping back to me).

Your thoughts please?

if Sony says that is not normal...Send it.

I’m seriously concerned because I constantly touch my face without being conscious of it. I’m my own worst viral enemy. I need to go the the vet and get fitted for a cone.:eek::eek:

New: the virus has now officially arrived here in Georgia, which is 100% unsurprising since it is home to the world’s most busy/trafficked airport. Now I have to go to Costco and stock up on all the toilet paper, spam, and huge enormous bags of asian market rice I can find. I don’t want to panic, but the omnipotent news media is forcing me to do it against my will.....

No experience. But if it were me, I'd value getting it repaired/inspected (free of charge?) over being without the lens all day long.

Instagram truly makes it difficult to grow organically. No matter what I do, my posts get low engagement. I try to be active on there and comment on my followers images and try to be as authentic as possible to grow a community but not sure if it's all worth it. Anyone else having the same challenges?

Yep , I’ve completely gave up now

Yes, I find the same. But is this not the same with all the photo sharing sites?
I cut back on using Flickr, and use 500px, but that is not great either. You do get other photographers using that site.
Last year on instagram some of the Pro motor racing photographers put out a post to try and get some more engagement, by saying if you responed to their post they would follow you and hopefully other people would do the same.

A few years ago I knew someone on this forum, who would post a photo on 500px, then go on facebook and on here (not this group, before Sony was on here) asking people to go and like his photo. Is that what you need to do ?

You're welcome to come to Ripshin. Several years of food there, for many.
I'm not to worried about this variant of COVID-19/Chinapox. Like its cousin in 1917, it will kill thousands. But next winter (2020-2021) after the mutations and wedding with the current
avian flu also spreading across China, that's when to worry....in 1918 Spanish Flu killed 55 million.
Or Covid 19 (highly transmissible/low death rate) + SARS (low transmission/high death rate) could wed and become the Pale Horse :(

Castillo de san Marcos Samyang 45/1.8 SOOC via Riv

I loved taking the grip off and walkaround with the 18, 24 and 45 Rok/Sams. 4 miles with that load was nothing. Two days later I carried the Riv+200600 for 5 hours and I'm still sore.

And Castillo via the Riv+Rok 24/2.8 at 2.8, focus point on the tower.
SOOC except vignette slider. This lens has seriously heavy vignette at 2.8.

I stopped using it months ago for my photography. I know it's not used as much but I much prefer Flickr. The images are displayed in a much better quality, I don't have people follow me just to unfollow me once I follow them back and I don't think I've ever got a comment sayin"Nice pic, check out my photos?".

Not sure about IG but I have heard that with FB business profiles if you pay for an ad they give you an increased reach but then lower your normal reach after the period so that you'll want to keep paying for the advertisements.

I definitely don't have that issue with my copy and I would definitely send it in ASAP if I was you!

I paired down my list of followers on instagram about a year ago and basically use it only as a marketing tool these days...and dont do much of that any more either. I've disengaged with it almost entirely and it's been positive.

Problem with Instagram is that you start to seek out likes as a means of validation and it starts to distract from the actual photography and it hinders the creative process because you start shooting to chase that validation instead of shooting for the sake of shooting.

I've detached myself from that need for validation and think it's been for the better.
