Its the brightness I was worrying about too. I edit in the dark a lot and end up underexposing due to the brightness. The calibrator has a light sensor though so hoping that resolves that.

Same here. This 3 image pano I took a couple of years ago gives you an idea of how dark my computer room looks, although I don't normally keep the desk light on.

Travis, I watched your video and left a comment. Great job walking us through your editing workflow. A new sharpener panel that I have been using of late is Web Sharpener by Andreas Resch. Greg Benz has a new one too that is free but I think I like Andreas' version a bit more since it has more options.

Sorry to ask a potentially stupid question here but am I right in thinking that you would use this at the end with your output file as opposed to early on in the edit?

Hi Eddie, use the Web Sharpener for your output sharpening in the final stage. It creates a copy of your image in a new document in the size that you specify. Then you can save it for web. Lumenzia, TKActions panel, etc all have their own version of web sharpening but this one by Andreas works well for me. It's free but a donation to the developer is always a good idea.

Hi Everyone, I have a quick question for the forum.

I have been a long time Aperture user but when Apple stop Aperture support I stopped using it as my DAM software and relied exclusively on managing my image collection within a image master folder on a separate image drive using MAC OS. I picked up a copy of Capture One Pro and I'm in the process of figuring out how I want to manage my image collection, specifically whether I should use referenced files mode or simplify the setup and import the actual RAWs into Capture One database.

The concept of imputing the RAWs directly into the Capture One database appeals to me for it's simplicity it's how I used Aperture but l would still maintain a separate hard drive with all my images stored outside of the database just to be sure.
Reference files are an attractive alternative, it would keep the database significantly smaller but the logistics of moving image files or folder worries me.

If you use Capture One I would appreciate any guidance/tips you could share in respect to which is better and also what your experience has been with the software, I know the raw converter in Capture is fantastic but I'm not sure how the DAM features compare to other asset management applications out there.

What I'm doing is using Sessions, i.e. no import into the system, or reference files. The logistics of moving files aren't so bad, though you may want to move entire folders/projects instead of single files. If you really need to move single files, Capture One has a system whereby you can pack them (with the sidecar files - I do miss the XMPs from ACR) and unpack them losslessly. Gives good performance. Personally I'd rather not have to manage catalogs.

That's dark indeed. Wouldn't that be bad for your eyes to work in such conditions?

Tried a long exposure of Ottawa from a walkway that's nearly always deserted (not that I would, since I hardly ever use it myself). Will have to try again with clouds (maybe even tonight, since we've just had some rain). The second one being a photo of the freeway most people use to go from Gatineau to Ottawa or vice-versa...not a long exposure; even on a quiet Saturday night, I can't quite imagine it being that deserted in normal times.

Both with the 35mm 1.8.

I always apply sharpening last. Never before other edits.

Same. For some reason I started to wonder if the plugin would be used earlier. At the end makes sense

Thanks David for the feedback. The green color cast was actually intentional in this case. I was going for a fantasy ethereal look to the image with muted colors and emphasis on light and shadow transitions. I used the colorize filter in Color Efex as my color grading base. You know my usual editing style which is rich color, contrast, etc. This dark and moody editing is just a fun exercise to explore. I have been inspired by the works of Enrico Fossati and his dreamy and dark images. Also like the illustrations from John Howe.

If you want mood in your images, you may want to check out Ramtin Kazemi, Marc Adamus, and Michael Breitung, and since you are now in a Mtn. state here is another tip https://www.mountain-forecast.com/ (external link)

I don't think so. I keep the brightness of my monitor low enough that it doesn't hurt my eyes to view it. I don't have to worry about stray light affecting the color or tone of my image I'm editing. It also works well for watching movies, etc too.

Ah, Spring. It's a nice day out to enjoy some gardening and some liquid refreshment when it gets warm. This Wernesgrüner pilsner hit the spot.

This is my first edit using my new monitor. Hopefully, the colors look OK.

I am going to look into the audio thing today. I am not using Premier, it was too complicated for me.
Indo have a video LED light for the at the desk portions, I just don't have it really bright. Still tweaking that too.

Oh in that case try look for some setting to match the audio levels. Premiere is pretty complicated, I only know how to do the most basic of things in there lol.

In other news my first ever colour calibrator just arrived. This is where I find out all my previous edits are off :-D

I highly recommend using DisplayCal software with your calibrator! It works with most calibrators and is much more thorough compared to the default software.

Colors as great as ever.

You can see that EFCS was switched on by the incomplete bokeh balls.

Are those some sort of onions (alliums) in the foreground?
