First day using A7RIII. I dropped it! Swapping lenses, removing 1.4TC, did not fully seat camera to lens (200-600) and camera dropped off lens as I was walking. First time I have dropped / damaged gear in about 5 years and last time was slipping on moss. 2 tiny scratches, it's probably a good thing. Get over the baby new gear phase and just use it.
First subject, Powerful owl, late dawn. Full image, then a crop. Highest megapickle camera I have owned and as expected good 'cropability'

You probably know I love owls and this image just blows me away. Powerful Owl=powerful image!
Be worth coming to Oz for except the Browns, the Tigers, the Taipans, the Copperheads and a few more I'd defy the odds and find.

Ooo painful.. I had my canon 6D for 1 month and was climbing a construction ladder in a building taking progress shots thought I had the strap on my wrist (normal procedure for me on const sites) and well it just slipped away in slow motion bounced off the side of the floor and then dropped 4 stories to the basement. Those are not fun days. ANY drop freaks me.

Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative to this tripod mount ring from Novaflex? It's £92!!

https://www.ebay.co.uk …3bb4ff3fffbf0dc%7Ciid%3A1 (external link)

What I would like to do, is attach a tripod mount collar to my K&F lens adapter. My adapter's outside surface is stepped so it's half 59.5mm & half 63mm.

The closest I have found is a cheap Chinese one for an EF70-200/4 which measures 65mm ID. I guess I can always pack it out a little bit but this one doesn't have an Arca Swiss mount just a foot with a thread in it for a QR plate....

It's for this in-coming Contax CZ 80-200/4 as I think I'd rather have it better balanced on the A7.

Lee,

When I had the Zeiss CY 100-300 I bought a cheap metal tripod collar mount and attached it to the Lietax adaptor that was on the lens. Something like the one below but it was about £20 from memory. I used a couple of bendy plastic shims to make the size difference up and once it was tightened on it was fine. From memory it was a canon 70-200 one but I cant be sure. You may be able to find something close to the size you need and do that.

unfortunately, that's what you have to deal with these older CY lenses. I had to use the leitax, which is super steady, but costs some bux

another option is a universal long lens adapter

Thanks Guys. I did just stumble across the Leitax but I don't want to permanently convert it because of my Yashica film camera.....

The Canon 70-200/4 one is close. But a closer Google has just found a K&F adapter (which I already have!) but with a tripod mount built onto the actual adapter. How good/strong they actually are I don't know but they have to be as strong as any other type I guess.

I have been watching a lot on film photography...and learning to use a spot meter correctly...and am not ashamed to say that I am today years old when I truly understand what the camera meter is telling me when it lines up at zero...it is not perfect exposure for the scene...it is proper exposure for medium gray...even as long as I have been taking pictures...I have been reading the meter wrong...

Lee - Charlies photo just reminded me that the setup I had was that the arca plate was separate and screwed into the mount (as per charlies photo)

Travis - I had no idea of that either!

This is where I love going back to old equipment and going through all the steps. That old knowledge is key to understanding a photo even when modern technology has so many tools to bring us to "acceptable". I wish everyone had the opportunity to truely go from the math of the shot to the math of the darkroom and then realize the magic is not just in the subject but understanding how to bring it to life.

Sorry went philosophical on you....... its cause I am trapped and need to get out and yell at contractors.

I had some understanding of using a Spotmeter from my school days shooting film. But I thought that the meter in a modern digital camera was based on the scene average...and maybe some modes are, but spot metering is looking at that one spot, and telling you that at zero you will get medium gray, or medium of whatever color that is...but in black and white terms, medium gray. Since switching to Sony I have ignored the meter a lot, feeling like it was not super accurate, I have relied more on the histogram and the WYSIWYG viewfinder.

I know you are heavy into Frank's project, and I would relish a chance to meet him one day. I would also love to have my own darkroom one day, but the house I live in right now isn't setup for anything like that. But I can still enjoy the process of shooting film...medium format film is the goal.
