Since I have been doing so much research on MF film, one of the channels I have been watching is Nick Carver, and he shoots with a 6x17 film camera, and the look of that aspect ratio is pretty cool. Sadly, I can't afford the camera so I will just have to crop. I had already set this one to 3:1 on the plane home, so it wasn't all that much different.

I'm also a subscriber of Nick Carver's channel. One of my goals using the Kodak folding cameras I have is to mask the film to a more panoramic aspect ratio. In the treatise I have on this, the author's goal was to achieve the largest exposure on 120 film, while still maintaining negative flatness (120 film is 1/4" narrower than the original 616 film). I may increase the mask width to get a 1.5" x 4.25" size negative for a 6 x 17 panoramic ratio.

Here is a page from the description of the mask.

Adding to this now that I'm on lunch at work instead of getting ready for work......

I thought it performed pretty well although f/5.6 is certainly better than f/4.

It did flare with the sun in the frame although it wasn't a horrible flare - I rarely shoot like that anyway and thinking about it now, I did have a cpl fitted.....

I also thought the out of focus areas looked pretty good too in all honesty in the 'test' shots I took. Foliage too! I'll share at some point when edited.

I was also surprised at its 'close up' ability - I shot some bluebells at 200mm pretty big in the frame and aside from it not being my type of image it done well and looked good.

It needs a contrast boost for sure when using alongside the 40/1.2 to 'match' images.

When I bought mine quite awhile a go, it came with C/Y extension tubes, so your correct about 'close up' ability.. For its price point it's a bargin for how it performs.

The CY vs the CV reder differntly, I am a fan of both renderings owning both, I honestly dont see a downside to either with the editing tools we have now a days available to us.JMHO

I decided to rent a 200-600 for a week...LensREntals had a discout code and the birds have been going crazy in the yard...I really want to see if the 200-600 is the right choice, since it is f/6.3 at the long end.

I was considering renting the 24GM or the 20G, but their shipping rates always discourage me.

Hope you’re not using it with an a7RIV. Based on reports, there seems to be an issue with that lens and body. A9 is no problem. Did you see that new video by Steve Perry? Excellent tutorial for shooting birds.

well it is covering shipping both directions, so I am ok with it. I don't want to go out right now...our local place doesn't even carry that lens anyway.

Nope, I would be trying it on the a9 and A7III. I have not seen that video, will have to check it out.

That's true! I've used both BorrowLenses and LensRentals in the past and found both to be excellent. I've rented lenses that I'm not interested in owning for events, and others just to try them out. Might do the 24GM soon.

I would love to get back into some bird and wildlife photography. Must get an a9 first I think.

Got this guy today. Not exactly compact, but it feels more like a 24-70 type zoom in hand than a typical f2.8 telephoto zoom. Sigmas 35 1.2 felt noticeably heavier and more bulky when I picked it up to take this shot.

I won't bore you guys with shots of disinfectant bottles, but first impressions are that AF is fast, lens is sharp on the long end, and IBIS sufficiently stabilizes the lens at 1/125s (where I shoot most of my shots of people).

Can you point me in the right direction regarding the issue between the 200-600 and the a7rIV? So far, I haven't noticed any problems but then, I haven't shot any BIF with that combo either.

Thanks for adding the newest video by Steve Perry. I haven't seen it yet but will now.

Sure thing Gene. Here you go. Guess I should start saving up for the 400mm GM f2.8! Yeah in my dreams.
