I never cared for silent shooting. I also always use mechanical shutter. But then I used to have old 1dmk2 which was like shooting a machine gun. Screen wise, even if it flips in portrait mode, it will be good for me. What I would like is pinch/zoom, slide on the LCD display. Sony is atleast 3 yrs behind Fuji on that.

Yeah I’m actually the same, once my camera is setup I rarely need to go into the menus so it’s fine . It just bugs the hell out me when I do need to go in and can’t remember where the setting was, for example I was trying to turn EFCS off the other day and it honestly took me 10 mins to find it. I must have skipped past it numerous times without seeing it :) . I really should sort out the “my menu” section for these type of things .

With regards to articulating screen - yep, would love that. Hate that you can’t tilt the screen when taking shots in portrait mode low down

What works best or at least the quickest for me seems to be to do a "find" in the cameras pdf user manual...or look it up on Google. ;-)a

Yeah google for me too. The other day though I was out with the kids and was trying to change it mid shots and ended up frustrated at the time it took me to find it and was all flustered :)

What I did notice though is there seems to be new features and settings in the menu that weren’t there originally and I’m confused as to what they even are. I’m going to see if the latest online manual has all the latest menu options and work my way back through them to check they are set correctly. They must have came via firmware update.

Yes , I was ready for s1h , panasonic is too stubborn about not changing its AF method.

Love my fujis for photos but for video they need alot of work with AF , well I think ots the lenses not so much the new bodies , and the stepping in auto iso even for home videos is annoying..

Sony a7s3 seems like everything i need when video is primary and photos are secondary and a flip screen!

Anyway , my preorder is in. 24th of Sept seems so far away now.

Starting to get a little silly how many times I've been in and out of sony..lol:lol::oops:

Oh well..yolo8-)

So my biggest beef with cleaning my own sensor is that after I swab I know there is dust racing back to get stuck again.

Anyone use a box like this???? Thoughts? I may try this to open up some old hard drives aka clean room

I'm going to do my best to wait for the christmas sales, this camera checks all the boxes minus stacked sensor (kind of a big box)

I was using the Tamron 28-200 for video last week, and I'm extremely happy with the quality of that lens. With the dual iso capability discovered on this camera (Gerald undone found ISO 16000 as the second base ISO), I'm sold on this.

4K 120 takes 45 minutes to overheat.... and only 1 minute to cool down for another 15 according to Max? 1080 120 is my guilty pleasure, and what I really want to upgrade. 4K 60 has been nice, but it doesnt hit the sweet spot of 120.... I'm so glad Sony is copying Panasonic style menus and MF/AF trick. No compromised audio in higher frame rates, that sony has always been good at (not so good on canon and panasonic), and ultra slick codec selection is head and shoulders above canon and panasonic from what I can tell.

the sheer usability aspect of the camera is why I went with Panasonic for video, and it's certainly excellent, and still better in some ways.... however, it does appear Sony has reclaimed much of that, while giving far superior technical abilities such as low light, DR, autofocus, and lens selection. Gerald undone and Max yurev have extremely comprehensive tech specs if you're into that thing.

Casey Neistat said on Twitter “ i need more time to figure out what i dont like about it and ill share that. for now it's as close to perfection as any camera ive ever used. this is not an ad, i wasnt paid to say any of this. nice work team @Sony and @SonyAlpha (why does sony have so many twitter handles?)”

Pretty high praise from a video centric guy

Edit - although he did call it a DSLR so not sure how good praise this is after all :)

Yes I got Gerald and a couple others who opinions I respect lined up to watch tonight after work..

Honestly I know very little about what new with this. I just know I liked the a7s2 alot for video. I took a quick look and saw the updated AF, which was my main gripe with the a7s2. Also saw 4k60, flip screen, full size hdmi.. and I was sold..

Tonight I'll learn more about what I actually preordered ߙ.. ive been waiting on this cameras release for a good while, so thinking on whether to pull the trigger or not didn't even cross my mind . I just did it honestly without knowing the details . But I imagine sony would do a good job with make it competitive

I had a break at 1020am. So I got in early on the preord3r .. i hope .

I have no idea about video. Was watching dpr and that flip screen was hitting the cables coming from the side. Video AF, did Sony add something new compared to A9II/A7rIV? I thought Canon video AF was better than Sony. Menu system look better, hopefully they can release FW for older cameras but Sony will probably do on A7rV by Christmas.:)

The a7S III is making me glad I’ve held off upgrading my a7R II...I’m looking forward to the new body/menu upgrades in the upcoming a7 IV and a7R V.

Same here David. Perhaps we will see an a7RV in a year.

I think it will be most likely the next body from Sony, aside from this rumored new body from a new line.

for the way i use the camera in video , for the most part the only cable taht would be an issue is the mic , and that , from what i seen is placed higher up and out of the way.

the other main ports that i use are mostly the hdmi, but when i'm using that its because i'm on an external monitr so the flips screen is not flipped out.. and the usb c sometimes if i need additional power but i dont normally do that too often and typiically onoly when i'm on a cage or rig where swapping batteires can be a pain...

so yes , with screen flipped out it would be blocked by some cables, but again the ones that would be an issues are ones i use when i have an extneral monitor.

for my use the AF in a7iii and a7r4 were good enough,, yes canon is a bit smoother with transitions , or even when it loses and finds again, it seems more natural.

However from what i understand the AF in this a7s3 is much improved , for videos and still i guess (though you probably wouldnt use a 12mp camera for the type of still photography in which you need blazing fast AF(wilf life/ sports etc)
