Those comparisons tend to be set-up to favor the smartphones and mask their deficiencies though. I've been pretty bullish on smartphone photography, but am increasingly growing less so.
Big issue for me with smartphone portraits is that the bokeh modes...they rarely look natural and most often the masking of the subject is just off. They're probably good enough for most people, but I don't think they pass the critique of a photographer. Which is fine, but they keep pitching these phones as being capable of taking professional photos. Its...an overstatement for sure.
