BTW - The sensor clean on these Sony camera is a joke. I am surprised not many people complain about it. My 3+ year old Fuji barely has one spot while the 1 yr old Sony in less than 1/4th the usage has so many of them.

It's one of the first things I noticed with Sony. I think the name is Tony Northrup, he certainly complained about it on his channel (not a follower myself, but I know that much). Pretty sure lots of people complain about it, but it seems like the tacit consensus is that Sony is otherwise good enough that it's worth it putting up with the ridiculously dust-prone sensor (I mean, Sarah Dietschy, who's an avid Sony user, actually puts stuff on her channel with obvious dust spots on it, that's how much she seemed to have given up on the issue). With Canon, even mirrorless, I never even stopped to think about sensor dust so much. Though it would be nice if Sony had the decency to have the shutter curtain close when you remove a lens and/or turn off the camera, since I can't believe that it's something that's so expensive to put into a camera that you would only put that in the a7R4 (which I think has it, and actually got it through a firmware update if I remember correctly) and the a9 line.

I am using A7rIV. Will have to check if there is a fix. On my Fuji GFX, there is no curtain to close at shutdown, yet no sensor spots. I read somewhere that Fuji engineers did extra work on how the glass which covers the sensor is done. It is better than most cameras out there. And can supposedly even be replaced if needed.

With regards to the a7R IV, I might very might be mistaken that it's got it - I seem to remember that it was though.

Yeah, Fuji is tempting for that reason, at least to have a Fuji camera for when I want to change lenses often without having to think too much about it (i.e. vacation).

Same with my Canon RP or any of the Ms I've used: never had a problem with dust despite not having a closing shutter curtain.

I know that cleaning a sensor is supposed to be simple, but it still scares me a bit to have to do this, and there's no real remedy when you get smth on your sensor while in the field (as happened to me when shooting the owl: it's even worse when shooting in APS-C mode and/or stopped anywhere below f/4).

Sony says they purposely do not close the shutter because the shutter blades could be damaged if they are held shut over the sensor when you take the lens off.

Dust is easy to clean. A couple pumps of the rocket blaster gets it off quickly. I got in the habit of just blasting the sensor a few as part of my pack and check process before I head out and shoot.

Occasionally i'll get a stubborn spec or two that require the use of a sensor swab, and on rare occasions I'll need to do a wet clean, but it's pretty straight forward

Doesn’t the A9II do it though? I have to admit I love the fact my R6 shutter closes. It’s optional too so you can disable it if you don’t like it.

Hopefully Sony roll it out to all future bodies and don’t try make it a premium feature for the A9 series only.

How you finding the R6 then Daniel? I don’t have any desire to switch but just curious since you are familiar with Sony

I’m absolutely loving it! Files/DR wise I find they handle the same as the A7III and had the same leeway when editing. Having the higher MP EVF and fully articulating rear screen have been a game changer for me too, it’s made some of my still life shooting that much easier.

I also find the 85mm f/2 to be one of the main reasons I’m enjoying it so much. I love the 85mm focal length but the long MFD has always been a pain for me and the only reason I’ve always owned a 90/100mm macro too. Since this lens can do both in one it’s been a dream to use.

Not sure if it’s possible with Sony bodies that have real time tracking and it’s a small thing but before you even focus, it will detect eyes even if the subject is out of focus. From this you can select which eye to use with the joystick then initiate focus. I’ve also noticed it will actually lock onto the back of your subjects head from the start and doesn’t need the actual face first to be able to tell where the head is if that makes sense.

Overall I’m really happy with it :D now just trying to fight the G.A.S in terms of lenses haha

I visit this/these annually at the same place. Not sure why they return or if it is even the same bird(s). There are two this year. Burrowing owls. They are small.

Had a welcome relief from spending too much time indoors, and found this amazing barn owl in the local park. I literally had heard of it right now, although it had been some kind of a curiosity in the last few days at least. We were something like half a dozen photographers on it, and the owl posed for us for a long time. Here's one of the owl and having its evening appetizer (or could it have been its supper?). Enjoy.

With the ever amazing 70-350. Composing anything was a challenge, my hands felt like solid blocks of ice for most of the time I was shooting, was barely able to feel the buttons of my camera.

Really cool shot! One of the nice things about shooting owls, they are very curious and willing to pose especially during the day. I came across a Great Hormed owl recently on a walk and spent a good 15 minutes checking him out with no reaction to me at all, unfortunately didn't have my camera with me at the time.-?. Unless I'm mistaken the owl in you photo I believe is a Barred Owl.

Drove to SF today to take shots of the GG bridge. Having lived here for 30 yrs, this is probably my first time taking pictures which aren't snap shots. While setting up. I see this very nice sunset behind me. The visiting tourist were right outside the edges on both sides. Almost no processing except remove some dust spots. my C1 is actinbg up again, when I try to remove the spots, they don't disappear. Tamrom 28-200mm lens. One shot, I let the sun over-expose like you would see with the naked eye.

Oh thanks! I might try to find it again. It's possible about the name, I'd have to check it out, to be honest that's what I heard the lady who told me about it call it (i.e. a barn owl) but I might very well have misheard or she could also have been mistaken...

Thanks. I am like an hour inland based on the traffic but if I don't see the open ocean for a while, I start feeling little bit bad so have to go out. Now I wouldn't be able to live any other place which is not closer to the ocean.

I will try my rocket blower. I bought it 15 yrs ago, so may now get to use it. But honestly what is that sensor clean on Sony doing, just playing a wav file when you shut down the camera.:)

That's good to know. If Canon release the rumored lenses (105mm f1.4, 135mm f1.4, all new TS-Es), I might have to think hard. For right now my GAS is waiting for the new Fuji GFX100s and see if Fuji updates the lens roadmap with a few fast primes and at least one TSE lens.
