To my surprise the wife likes this one for the spot over the fireplace. I am thinking a nice face mounted print in an open back frame.

Travis, I recently printed my Zion family image on Canson Infinity paper. Turned out beautiful. Got it from BayPhoto. Just an idea.

The American kestrel is a falcon and the smallest in N. America. My nemesis bird. I got a few decent shots this year but they were at a distance and I was using the a7R3 so got a little more detail with a crop than I would have with the a9.

Thanks Bill. Yeah they are super fast. I got lucky with my shot.

He’s a puffy one. Nice image Gene.

That looks like a Kestral. Great capture as they are very small...and fast!

Thank you!

Encouraging shot Alfredo. I like that you snagged this with the a6000…I hope the rumor is right that Sony is going to announce a powerful new aps-c camera with a9/a1 type tracking AF sometime this month, because that would be an ideal body for my birding needs, I think.

Thank you David. That sounds promising. The a6000 did ok. The zone AF worked fairly well.

I posted a link of FM…but scrolling down there is a flying male captured from below (9th photo down) that matches the markings of your bird: https://intobirds.com …ing-the-american-kestrel/ (external link)

That’s a reslly cool catch! All I ever see are red-tailed hawks.

Thanks David! I saw a bald eagle too but it was too far to shoot.

Beautiful lights and colors David. Your crop is very close to 17 x 6. I'm curious if you tried it at that ratio to see how that looked?

Thanks Gene! I used a 21:9 crop on this. Basically just cropping off all the foreground pavement while retaining the sides and top of the frame.

I think he must have just eaten and was probably feeling like I do after eating a big meal. :-D He was perched at the top of the street light in front of my house and I was able to walk up to the base of it, snapping shots all the way. He looked more annoyed with me than anything. :p

Thanks Bill. Yeah they are super fast. I got lucky with my shot.

They are pretty little falcons, I see them quite a bit by the side of the road "hovering" in mid air as the scan the glass below for mice.
