I thought I'd wait a bit longer before acquiring one of these, but I just got a transfer from my current position at work (which I rather hate), so I figured I'd treat myself a little ;)

Nothing in the reviews I'd seen prepared me for how small and light this thing is... My impression is that it might be rather difficult to do close-up photography, but it doesn't seem half-bad for that on my a6600. Does a small sound when focusing, but it's almost inaudible. Looking forward to shooting it (picked it up from my doorstep 30 minutes ago...)!

Our wine tasting group tasted a flight of reds from Portugal recently and we really enjoyed them. The prices were very reasonable too.

A classic 60's lens and some great wine, what could be better? :-)

More than just shooting some photos of the camera itself, I've finally been able to go on a reasonable walkaround with the a6600, paired with the 70-350G this time around. My results are far and above much better than what I got with the a6000. This time all but one of the photos I took were sharp and in focus, just as they should be (well, not really all but one, but ultimately they were misses that were due to something else than the focusing/camera not working as it should).

Nothing like a wholesome outdoorsy activity while wearing a mask... (70-350G@350mm)

Photo of a branch of a lilac tree (I'm pretty sure it was a lilac tree)...not the best photo, there was much wind (leading to a couple misses), but this photo just makes me wonder why ppl dislike Sony colors so much. Maybe it's because they've not shot a G lens? That 70-350G in particular is something special. (70-350G@240mm)

Building impromptu Inukshuks is kind of a thing in my area, I'd caught someone in the act on one of my previous walks, wonder if all the inukshuks on this trail are done by the same person. In any case, there definitely is some beautiful detail on that inukshuk. (70-350G@116mm)

After taking the first one, I'd walked off and gone some ways before deciding to go back and trying one from a lower angle and in portrait orientation... the guy who was making a phone call just around the bend of the trail must have thought I was crazy to be so engrossed in that inukshuk, which, let's say it, isn't that special anyway. (70-350G@134mm)

Some quick views & opinions from you guys please.......

I rarely shoot wide as you probably know - 19 images on my Flickr at 24mm or wider in the last 18 months!!

Samyang 24/1.4 I use for night skies.
Voigtlander 21/3.5 I use for landscapes mainly - I often take it out on the hope for a big WOW sky but I never take it woodland shooting. I did start off with it for Milky Way stuff though but obviously had to sacrifice a higher ISO. It is lovely to actually use though......

But. Do I sell them both for the Sony 20G?

I do have a star tracker en route but going back to the CV21 aperture is going to wipe out the longer shutter speeds gained by using the tracker so that makes no sense at all really.

The Samyang is EF so a bit of a bulk on the adapter - But I'm happy with IQ at f/2 - Obviously the 20G isn't really going to gain an extra light gathering for Milky Way. Do I see how the 24mm performs on the tracker first? I'm sure the size/weight won't be an issue.

The 20G sits in between the two lenses for size & weight and I do feel it would be a good compromise of putting the two lenses into one for multi use.

I guessing here but..... The CV21 is probably £400 used & the Samyang maybe £150-180. I know of a used 20G up for sale £725.

If it were me, I would try the Samyang on the tracker first. That lens is a laser stopped down a bit. If you can deal with the bulk I reckon you will get awesome tracker shots from it

Edit - sounds like I’m trying to resell it to you :-P

Edit 2 - if you aren’t using the cv21 then selling both for the 20G might actually be the way to go

35GM. Bokeh is good for closely framed shots, but for loosely framed shots it can get gnarly.

That said, I may keep it for the AF. But it will live alongside the Bigma and 35i. Don't judge my GAS lol.

I don't know if you've seen, but Samyang did announce a new FE 24 1.8 in its tiny lens series which it is announcing as having been designed specifically for astrophotography, maybe that could work out as well as an alternative option? It's supposed to come out in May or June, can't remember off the top of my head, you could wait for the reviews. edit: Actually, Dustin Abbott actually released his definitive review of the 24 1.8 just an hour ago (maybe you'd seen it already)... Not watching it right now, it's too long for me to watch before starting work, but will do so at lunchtime. Looking forward to this one tbh.

Cheers Eddie. With regard to 'edit 2' I'd then have a £725 lens that I don't use much instead of a £400 lens :-D:lol::-D

I'm certainly happy with the Samyang images that I get equipment wise.
