This photo was taken with my 4 x 5 Speed Graphic back around 1974. I just acquired an Epson V850 scanner and this is the first time I've been able to scan this 4 x 5 negative in a single pass. Previously, I've had to scan twice and merge. The film holders on the V850 have anti-neuton ring glass which also helps keep the negative flat.

I scanned the negative using Silverfast as a positive 48-bit RAW DNG file then converted in Lightroom using the Negative Lab Pro plugin. After converting and cropping, I exported it as a Tif file for Photoshop. I removed dust spots, sharpened and resized, then saved as a jpg for sharing.

I may have posted this image before and if so my apologies. I wanted to test my scanner and workflow using it and I'm very pleased with the results. Now I wish I had my Speed Graphic again.

Having just shot my first 4x5 developed and then had to split the scan in my Epson that doesnt quite go to 4x5 I can understand how great to just scan the 4x5 must be.

Nice

I watched one video where they were focusing on different objects indoors from a tripod (the 'test' they tend do for focusing noise & speed) & it didn't appear to focus breath at all - or very little anyway. But then again, that's from very close to a couple of metres not to infinity.

Yeah, based on Dustin Abbott's review it's good but not phenomenal. I was quite surprised to find out that the Samyang actually held its own pretty well in the IQ dept compared to the 35GM. I think it may very well be what I'll get for my 'casual' (food/museum) lens for my a6600, with the added benefit that I'll be able to use it on my a7 III for portrait/landscape if I feel I need to.

Do you think you'll consider for astrophotography? I found Dustin's example way underwhelming all things considered, it doesn't feel like he tried very hard in that department (though I can understand being burned out trying out lenses at some point lol). It did seem very good for that purpose, and it would be cheaper than the 20G lol.

Thanks. If you haven't already, I highly recommend you give the Negative Lab Pro plugin a try. You need LR Classic for it but since it's already included in my "Photographers" subscription, I use it for these conversions. That's all I use LR for at the moment too.

looks pretty dang good! I remember trying to scan a negative from a scanner years ago and it was pretty bad. I've only scanned it once, maybe I needed to do it two times? oh well, it's years past for me to wonder now hehe. nice to see technology improvements.

very nice scenic. makes me want to have a walk in the area :) are there any wild animals or critters that you need to watch out for when you go for these walks?

Here in California I'd be afraid of snakes and big cats. and certain places, bears hehehe

I think I might... But I would like to see a night sky review. And see what the QC is like - but I think those issues are more for the ultra cheap lenses.

On the other hand, the 20G is only about 100g heavier, QC isn't going to be an issue, I know what the lens can do, and the used 20G is only about £200 dearer than the new Samyang 1.4 price.....

We don't get them down south :p

I think they would stress me out more than being in an area with snakes and other animals!

The AF works well, yes there were some misses, but that I would put down to operator error !
With the A9 and A9ii you seem to end up with more keepers, and I only use it on Med shooting rate and with that I end up with far to many photos in a sequence, that are in focus.

A couple of times I did get the loss of view finder on the A9ii.

Wow, Yeah not for the faint of heart! David, I have no aspirations to climb that specific one but do want to do at least one 14 teener.

Quandary Peak (14,271'), south of Breckenridge. Easiest 14er on the planet!

WFH life for me is (probably?) ending soon, but this past year had me cycling through so many headphones to find a good balance of audio quality for music, mic quality for remote meetings, and noise cancellation because the kids are just loud AF. I found these getting the most use.

Supposedly the Sony 100mx4 are very good all around too (best noise cancellation and very good mics) and they've been on sale pretty frequently, but I already acquired 4 headphones during the pandemic...don't need anymore hah

Quick edits from the first shoot last night. A really chill little garden on a Victorian home that was renovated by an architect a couple years ago.
