A different approach to photographing waves. The trick was finding the right shutter speed to catch the motion but not loose the texture. And a little peek-a-boo look at the Golden Gate.

Hi Annie, no not doing any Munro’s, fitness is far from where it needs to be. Joined a gym yesterday though to try and turn it around

Now that lockdown is easing I can finally target some photo orientated trips. Heading to Skye for 4 days in 2 weeks time. Want to target the fairy pools and the Old Mann of Storr (amongst other things) as I’ve never actually visited them on previous trips there.

Now to start planning the loadout :-P

Man I envy you. I live in a landscape photography desert.

I often think I do too and take what I have available for granted. Trying to make an effort to photograph what I have access to more. Skye seems miles away but it’s actually only 165miles / 3.5 hours away

having an otus was a dream of mine :P I just couldnt do the price and the manual focussing. the sony zeiss 55 1.8 is what I could afford and it is one heck of a little lens that can do af and give a good seperaition and bokeh. it's what had been lifting off my want for the otus. time's have changed and I am trying out manual focus. I settled getting a leica 50 summilux because the images I've seen had blown me away and I had always thought about it for the longest time. it won't be as sharp as the 50gm, but the overall look of the images looks dreamy. I may consider getting an otus 85 far in the future hhehe. let's see how this manual thing goes for me.

I hear what you are saying about the Otus but man the Leica M is a whole level of Rabbit hole:lol:. I still have quite a few of the LM lenses that I've kept back from my A7R days when there was limited amount of native glass and adapting was all the rage.

I've since sold my Leica 16-18-21 Wate which I really regret but I've kept the ZM 25, ZM 35 f1.4 ZM 50C and the Leica 90 APO summicron. The 50Lux was always on my want list but was never able to pull the trigger on it. The beauty of the LM lenses is the size and sheer pleasure of manual focus, they will be with me until I am no longer here.

I take for granted the scenery that is local to me as well. I suppose we all do. If I were to ever visit Scotland, I'd go crazy photographing the farms, pubs, rock walls, green rolling hills, any old style building. Basically, anything that isn't common to my area.

I popped over to Wiltshire today. All day :-D Some quite nice scenery about which I was pleasantly surprised with.

Travis (or anyone else that knows), when you do time lapse on your Sony’s do you use the built in intervalamoter? I’ve not done any time lapse before pretty much and want to try and learn it before my trip. Need to watch some tutorials to see what I’m actually supposed to be doing as it’s alien at the moment

Edit - the main bit I’m confused about is how to choose the interval. I’ve got an app that tells me how many shots I need to take for whatever clip length I want at 24fps, but just not sure how I land on a specific interval

That would have been cool. We had very little free time since most of my time was dedicated to my.client.

I have, for stationary sequences and it works damn good. I don't use it when motion is in play, the Syrp gear handles it.

you can do shorter intervals and speed up in post. Depends what you’re doing, for instance, quick and dirty might be 240 shots, one per second or even two per second and be done in 10 minutes. More dedicated would be 400 shots every 5 seconds for epic sky movement and play with speed ramping in post. This would take two hours to complete, so your tripod is stuck in one location for a long time, depends how fast clouds are moving.

One of the safest is doing 1 every 1 and leave it at 999 shots start the shooting and leave when you think you’ve had enough slow/speed in post as needed. You probably want 240 shots at minimum every time, that gives you 10 seconds for each segment. Set AE to low most the time.

One last dirty direct to video is S&Q , playback at 24, 1fps

Attached are my settings I have used, btw, turn off IBIS or you may have a slight drift.

yeah i'm afraid of diving into a leica m for the experience

are you still adapting from time to time? maybe you can get the adapter that auto focus lol. its tempting to get. it only took me almost 8 years to use an adapter on the old a7r :P

earlier tonight i was trying to do manual and boy was it time consuming. switched between the 50lux and the 50gm. the 50gm really is a pleasure to shoot with sony's new body and shutter. it feels really nice. I can say it's the best lens ive ever used and own. its so much simple with af hehe. fast, sharp, bokeh, 1.2 goodness.
