Vinz I was watching reviews of the A7C last night haha!

But can it do BIF? My alpha will need a backup. Maybe the A7 iii is a better choice for me?

Probably but one thing that you may need for BIF is the better AF system of the A7C. Tracking is way better which you may need for BIF as your backup?

The new body and the 200600 are now confirmed to be weather resistant.
This shot in pouring rain and ugly cold.

That A1 is looking better and better on the daily...I keep seeing such great images from it.

How is the DR? I have been editing from the SF shoots the last couple nights, and due to the breeze, blending really hasn't been an option. And I find I am using all the DR the a7r2 has to offer, and that is such a valuable tool. And why I still shoot big brackets, so that I can find the image the can be manipulated in both directions as much as needed without loosing IQ.

Travis, when you say you shoot big brackets, many stops up/down do you go?

The a7R II has the worst DR of all the a7R bodies. Going off memory I think the a7R III is something around one stop better.

The a1 DR is no doubt superb, but I see difference-making presence in a1 imagery that strikes me as beyond DR…..whatever it is it’s a truly standout camera in the Sony lineup.

Guys I'm back :)
As some know, in the last 3 months I've retired, gotten married, sold a house, bought a car, completed the massive
move from the city to the mountains, remodeled the house I sold and completed (never really done when married haha!)
the remodel of the 'retirement home'.

I sold my A7Riv and a9, bought the Alpha1, added a FE20/1.8.

Now to photography.
Tonight at 0100 we crossed the lake for the Milky Way vantage spot. I took my ancient a7s and the A1/used the 20/1.8 on each.
There is a reason I keep the old girl :)
Yet the A1 did just fine.
Could have done better if my fingers (on the fly-by-wire focus) were screaming after 30 min's...it was 37F/2.7c. Luckily no wind.

First up the Alpha

welcome back Robert!! you were missed. I've been wondering about your absense, glad you're doing just fine :)
I had always thought you were married hehe congrats to you on the marriage.

hope you are enjoying yourself now.

This is really good news! I have the a7iii, and the 200-600. Focussing on stills is ok, but I've not had any joy with BIF. Although it's fair to say I'm still learning to tame the 600, after have a 70-300 forever. But my take on this is that the a7 iv will have this same better AF too, which is probably enough for me, and means I can stop my mind wandering into A9 territory!!

The a7c has a max shutter speed of 1/4000 - does that not rule it out of BIF?

I live in the uk too and I don't think I've ever had enough light to enable a shutter speed that fast! Anyway the answer to your question is no.

Not at all on a bright clear sunny day you can get 1/4000 f5.6 / 6.3 iso 800 but that's not very often here in the UK

I do try for 1/3200 with a 600mm at f5.6 as my go to BIF setting.

Rob.
