welcome back Robert!! you were missed. I've been wondering about your absense, glad you're doing just fine :)
I had always thought you were married hehe congrats to you on the marriage.

hope you are enjoying yourself now.

DT I'll be honest with you. I've never worked so hard. I've averaged 10-12 hours a day post retirement. I'll post an image in a bit as an example (of work and A1 DR).
Yeah I missed being here but promised myself I'd get the crops in first ;)

1/4000 is plenty. I posted the Barn Swallow at a paltry 1/1600.
1/3200 would have been idea but dark/rain...pushed as much as I could.
The big bierds like eagles/herons/geese, with Travi's panning ability (race cars), can be had at 1/800.
Just an amateurs opinion ya know.

Eddie I don't think the A7C would be idea for BIF but for other reasons=NO front dial :(
and I've never liked the rangefinder style.
But right now I've only got the Alpha (not counting my a7rii and a7s) and feel I need something
backup wise.
Yeah still working Fuji, and have nabbed a few explores with it; in fact I've learned the xt4 is perfectly
capable of BIF. If ever bored-
https://www.flickr.com …/albums/72157715390899951 (external link)
And this one got some of my highest flickr faves ever (pouring rain too by the way)-
https://www.flickr.com …/album-72157715390899951/ (external link)

But Sony is the love and passion and I'm still thinking the A7C with the kit zoom (I've already got it)
would be a nice companion with out doing wildlife/bierding venues.

For Travis and Vinz.
Me doing real estate?
Well I've thought about it. My doctor told me to get a part time job; that most men die within 3 years of retirement!
I asked where he got that...he said insurance actuarial tables :(

When I sold the house in town I followed the photographer around.....seriously? He used and a6300 with a Rokinon on it. F8 and all is great haha!
I just don't know if I could hold down a real job now. Kinda used to the drill up here on the mountain.

OK. the Alpha and DR?

I shot handheld a 3 shot bracket.
Auto-aligned in PScc.

You can see the jungle of rhododendron I'm surround by out the window. Acres and acres so thick you cant walk through it....yet a bear can run through it
like it's not even there....and Travis this is probably why I rarely go to the Roan when I have probably 700 rhodos on my own property :(

Back to the image. Not so much to practice for real estate Vinz, but to thank Neutron for helping me replace the window.
You all probably remember we do all the work possible we can (like last summer in the re-do here completely replacing all the plumbing with PEX and installing
a whole house tankless propane water heater/Rinnai).

So we have installed metal on some walls in the great room....but had to get that circa 1970's window replaced first (Atrium). The Poof and I, she with measuring tape,
and me with grinder and lots of roofing metal-

I live in the uk too and I don't think I've ever had enough light to enable a shutter speed that fast! Anyway the answer to your question is no.

10 star hawk! You might remember hawks are dear to me :)
But you guys/gals over there don't call them hawks? Buzzards?

Glad I've beat the actuary odds. As a retired homebuilder, I have to say I would have hired you but if you're like me, I couldn't afford me or you. That's why I was the boss.

My Doc told me almost the same thing when I retired 9 years ago. I did some part-time consulting for a couple of years, but quit that when it was costing me more in taxes than it was worth, and it was getting in the way of traveling and other fun things.

I think the key is to have hobbies and interests. Obviously I’m speaking out of school here cos I’m not retired, but my observations of family and friends in the situation is that the people that thrive in retirement always have hobbies and interests. The ones that seem to struggle are the ones that stop working then don’t know what to do with themselves. Dementia seems to be more prevalent in those people too. I’m hoping the fact I have lots of hobbies and like going camper van trips, being in the great outdoors, hill walking, travelling etc will help me avoid that when the time comes.

All of this is just anecdotal though so might be complete nonsense :-P

The biggest problem I have at my age is I think my memory is fading. And as I get older, I find my memory isn't what it used to be. I'm beginning to notice my memory is fading as I age.

Travis, when you say you shoot big brackets, many stops up/down do you go?

I shoot 9 frames at .7 stop intervals, overkill, yes, but I can't go back and shoot it again after we have left, so I make sure I have all the data I need. It also makes shooting faster, I am more focused on composition and less on the technical stuff.

The a7R II has the worst DR of all the a7R bodies. Going off memory I think the a7R III is something around one stop better.

The a1 DR is no doubt superb, but I see difference-making presence in a1 imagery that strikes me as beyond DR…..whatever it is it’s a truly standout camera in the Sony lineup.

and yet it still blows any Canon up to the 5DMKIV out of the water...if it really is the worst, then I am impressed, because I am always impressed by it...can't even imagine having more to work with.

Interesting Travis, so do you do that for every landscape tripod shot? Or just when you feel the dynamic range demands it? Always keen to hear how others go about things

For landscape, I wish you could select just a double bracket - foreground & sky!
