I'm probably one of the older guys lurking on this thread, all my "kids" that are your kids ages, are my grandchildren. In my experience I like looking back on some great shots I've made over the years, but the shots that really count are the ones of my boys growing up. My biggest regret is that I didn't take more snapshots of them.

It's sad that "snapshots" seems to have become a derogatory term.

my middle children are 8 and 9 and want no part of posed photos, but they are ok with candid/goofy photos, so I'm still doing those. My oldest will have a face like it's punishment, when photos of him are taken

and I agree with the backpack sentiment, that's really reserved for planned photoshoots. If I have to carry my backpack everywhere, I'de quit photography sooner than later. Hell, I'm too lazy to bring a diaper bag at this point, I'll keep a few diapers stashed in each car and just wing it with the baby. Dont even carry baby food with her out, just improvise.

For my type shooting I feel that if I carry a camera bag I've got too much stuff. I roll with the camera/lens and toss a second small prime in my hiking pack or even just a pocket. I certainly don't cover everything but don't care either. Super chill.

on the subject of snapshots, I print mine out with watermarked date stamps, really nice if I want to reference to the file or just to keep in relation to life events.

been preparing to do a big batch at costco, probably a few hundred prints to catch up!

The place I use for prints , prints the file name on the back of the photos so I try and have the date in the file name so that in the future I will know when it was taken

Ok, so I've been lurking on this thread for awhile now, but really enjoyed your album from your last trip, so what the heck, I'll post my photos from my last trip.
Like the other posters, I don't bring my ff Canon with me on family things, I bring my a6300 instead. My kids are older, adults in fact, but when I'm with my family, they get my focus, because let's face, that's how it should be, right?
So I hope y'all get at least some enjoyment out of my album, and any comments and criticisms are most welcome. Most of your photos intimidate me anyway!!

I agree about being super chill with the camera gear. For the most part, I simply carry a 35 or 50, I kind of feel bad for the 85 as it's not that much bigger yet I neglect it. It's also optically superior to the 35/50, but focal length is too long for "normal". I dont like dragging 2 lenses if I can get away with 1!

Love the family photojournalism thread although I havent contributed in ages, same with the "kids 20xx" threads.

I think most places can do that around here, however I watermark the front, just small in the corner. I really dreaded figuring out how to do this again since it's been almost 2 years since I've done a major print job, but I found out that C1 does this, so I'm super happy. I have a "recipe" for my small prints and just batch select and export. Super simple. I think in the past, I had to use IRfanview or something to do that. Definitely dont want my kids taking out the photo to check the dates, as they are rough with the albums. I've got several tears as is, wish I had invested in better albums, but not much selection when you're buying 500+ photo albums. I've got around 2.5 albums left to fill before I have to buy more albums.

Wow, Carlo...those images are just outstanding. If I felt in a rut, one look at your work would pull me right out of it. Excellence.

Please don't share any secrets, but did you create your website from scratch, or is it through one of those template things (smugmug, squarespace, etc.)? I tried a squarespace thing last year and the images took forever to load, so I quit it, but yours appear instantly and the scrolling experience is smooth. Regardless, your gallery is not only great for the content, but the viewing experience is as good as any I've ever seen too.

Don't know why, but it rubs me wrong when people say "thank you for sharing," but I gotta say it Carlo: Thank you for sharing, because your work has inspired me.

You got me wanting to go shooting so bad now, but I have to wait for some healing.

This is not sony related but damn this is amazing

Is anyone using the Sony Zeiss 16-70mm F4 lens? I'm shooting with the 16-50 kit lens on my A6500 and was thinking of jumping up to this lens and was looking for opinions on it. Thanks

Yeah that's the beauty of those lenses, I had an opportunity to use the F2 version back in my Canon days and I came a click close to purchasing on one occassion but thank God my better senses kicked in, it's a bit of an ergonomic nightmare situation to shoot for me, basically on a monopod at all times yet everytime I see the output from it the yearning to own it comes back again.

consider that the 70-200 f2.8 is around 1.5KG. Heavy as hell if you ask me. 200 f1.8 is 3.0KG, twice the weight. Carrying 2 70-200 f2.8's at the same time is insane!

by contrast, the sigma 135 f1.8 is 1KG. While it loses the blur contest by about 1 stop with same framing, it does share the telephoto look, and weighs 1/3rd the weight. I think the sigma 135 art is a MASSIVE lens, the 200 is in a different elephant sized league
