I don't see how you could use them with a rectangular grad...but I have not had one in hand so...maybe send them an email and ask?

True. I have some ND grads and can’t use the top and bottom covers on the filter holder.

At 12mm, you can almost see yourself behind the camera. :-)

I have not been to Crystal Bridges but it’s on my list for this trip. I hear it’s an amazing place. Thanks David. I was wonderfully surprised by Kansas. Would be nice to visit KC a few days.

I just went all in and ordered :)

Went for this - https://www.formatt-hitech.com …rdi-signature-edition-kit (external link)

and this - https://www.formatt-hitech.com/100mm/firecrest-nightscape (external link)

Going to sell to offset the cost - Firecrest 10 stop (its the previous version), Lee 6 stop, Lee 10 Stop, Lee 3 stop resin grad (the firecrest one is glass), Lee CPL

Feel like I have got the landscape bug back which is good, feel motivated to get out at key times after what feels like a couple of years not having the bug

Lee has new and improved filters that are suppose to be neutral. But... $$$$$
Look into Haida too if you havnt.

really like seeing the bed of purples. and it's amusing how you say they are all over the area. gives it a nice color other than just a green forest.

same here with not using filters. I went on a weekend trip, brought the filters, and totally forgot I brought them lol zzzzz

Well my buddy caught all the dorado. I had a shark on for 30 minutes but we gave up on it because we were chasing it at 14 knots and could not wear it out.

The Baja is beautiful I really want to just go and take pics some day but the fish keep calling me!

Very nice composition @ 12mm, actually perfect for the 12, as the distance tree's are not looking tiny, unlike many images shot with wide angle lenses and the distant mts, tree's, city buildings look to small for the shot. Very nice color similar to Zeiss rendering.

I see you have the Batis & Loxia 85, how do you find them in there color rendering and micro contrast, aside from one being Af and the other Mf.

I read the Loxia 35 has flare control & ghosting issues, what has been your experience?

Thanks!

The color rendering of Batis and Loxias are quite similar and they’re both reference quality in that regard in my opinion. The way Loxias handle reflective surfaces (water) has always been especially alluring and appealing to me - there is a deep deep richness there that the Batis lenses lack. Originally I had the Batis 18 and 25, but I switched to the Loxia 21 gor that reason. My only regret is selling those two lenses instead of simply adding the Loxia.

The Loxia 85mm is significantly sharper than the Batis and probably has greater microcontrast, though I’ve always loved the Batis 85mm rendering. I really really need to shoot my Batis lenses a whole lot more. The 135mm is really special imo.

I absolutely love my Loxia 35mm! It’s easily the worst of the Loxias and I regard it as useless wide open, and not even very good at 2.8. What makes it so egregiously atrocious (to my eyes) is it suffers from astigmatism, which looks awful to me. But, stopped down as a landscape/cityscape lens it is stellar and the 35mm focal length tends to serve me more than my 21mm or 85mm. I shoot it into the sun (sunsets) and have never seen any ghosting or flares, just those phenomenal classic Loxia sunstars and contrast. Not saying the lens doesn’t have ghosting or flares, only that I’ve not seen them.

My old Drobo is slow and I’m thinking of upgrading to a new NAS. Thinking either Qnap or Synology. What is everyone using? Recommendations?

When my MacBook Pro was my main editing machine I had a synology nas (don’t use it now I edit on PC, instead I use Acronis and backblaze as my backup and have everything stored on the internal drives). The Synology worked well, some of the built in apps were useful and it worked great with macs time machine. My only negative would be the access time. So if you wanted to go back via lightroom and browse a folder of images on the nas and make edits it was painfully slow. It’s fine if you hardwire though so not sure if that’s just a wifi limitation you would get with any solution or if it was a synology thing (my guess is it would be the same with all on wifi). Not sure if any of that is of use to you :)
