Sooo I think I’ve eventually decided to give the 85GM a try. I’ve always previously owned an 85 and find I like shooting 35/85 (and 135 when I feel like carrying all 3). Been going round in circles with the 85GM vs the sigma 85 DG DN for months now and almost bought the sigma this week but I had a think today about what is most important to me and got to the conclusion that it’s the rendering above all else and the GM wins in that regard. I find that I take my most pleasing shots when it’s a lens with good rendering ahead of sharpness etc. I purchased the 135GM trying to find the 135L magic I miss so much but if I’m honest with myself the 135GM simply doesn’t have it. It’s great in so many other ways, and I do love it, but just doesn’t do what the 135L does.

So thinking I should try the 85GM and see if the focus speed is actually an issue or not for what I shoot and if it is good then I will consider selling the 135. If it’s not I’ll likely sell it and try the sigma. That’s the plan anyway, will see how it pans out when something else catches my eye :-P

Surprising/not-surprising Eddie. I’m so torn between the two that I’m just going to stick with my Batis 85mm for now. The Sigma wins convincingly on the technicals (size/weight/sharpness), but the 85GM is pure magic from all I’ve seen.

My old Drobo is slow and I’m thinking of upgrading to a new NAS. Thinking either Qnap or Synology. What is everyone using? Recommendations?

We are in the process of putting in a NAS at the office...our IT guy used to recommend QNAP but has stopped doing so. They release a FW update and something else stops working every time now apparently. He has recommended Synology to us, and that is what we bought...we have not set it up yet, but if I like it, I plan to set one up at home. The work one is easy ans small since we really don't have that much data...for home...it will be a little more expensive and more drives.

David, I own a Synology and am pleased with it. Super easy to setup and minimal maintenance on it. I believe Jose and I have the same 6 bay unit. Their latest model.

Looks like you 'winged it' pretty well to me. :-) I may have to look into a tracker someday.

This is excellent, Lee. I agree with the others, I may have to look into something soon as well. Used to have telescopes not so long ago so I'm fascinated by the night sky.

Yeah we have the same model Synology NAS. My unit has been rock solid since I installed it in early January of this year, it sits in the closet chugging away :-). I use it primarily as a TimeMachine backup location for all of the MACs in our home and for that it's been flawless.

I've been shooting a lot of flora stuff lately especially with the Sigma 105 Macro and the new 50 GM.

Beautiful pastel colors and the scene really has a nice "3D" pop to it.
