Beautiful pastel colors and the scene really has a nice "3D" pop to it.

Thanks Gene, I'm really liking the new 50 GM, it's one of those lenses that you can shoot wide open without any concern.

If I had to pick 85’s , I would lean toward GM for the signature look and color, makes things a little easier. The sigma, tamron and Samyang all have a cast.

Awesome Lee !! So much detail and nice pin point stars!

How long was your exposure?

navydoc wrote in post #19245779 (external link)
Looks like you 'winged it' pretty well to me. :-) I may have to look into a tracker someday.

David Arbogast wrote in post #19245788 (external link)
Wow, so cool Lee!! Just gorgeous. I love seeing a well-exposed beautiful landscape along with the outstanding MW sky.

Bill in Texas wrote in post #19245822 (external link)
This is excellent, Lee. I agree with the others, I may have to look into something soon as well. Used to have telescopes not so long ago so I'm fascinated by the night sky.

Super nice shot Lee.

Thanks all. It wasn't as dark as or usual area but still managed to pull enough detail out.

I usually shoot around f/2, 13/15 seconds, iso 1250

This was f/2, 75 seconds, iso 400 sky & 1250 foreground.

I always seem to stack 6 images. No obvious noise issues at all even on the ancient A7.

Move Shoot Move rotator BTW.

I've been shooting a lot of flora stuff lately especially with the Sigma 105 Macro and the new 50 GM.

Nice Jose. I love shots like this but I can never seem to pull them off. I follow on Instagram something like Top Macro, and the flower stuff that pops up on there is amazing.

Being a vertical image the top was what showed up on my smaller laptop screen, and I really liked it, a lot, it had a great pop to it and a very nice focus falloff...and then I kept scrolling...and it wanted to be cropped to focus on that top set of blooms. The set in the bottom right seems to distract a bit to me. Just my 2 pesos...

Thanks!

The color rendering of Batis and Loxias are quite similar and they’re both reference quality in that regard in my opinion. The way Loxias handle reflective surfaces (water) has always been especially alluring and appealing to me - there is a deep deep richness there that the Batis lenses lack. Originally I had the Batis 18 and 25, but I switched to the Loxia 21 gor that reason. My only regret is selling those two lenses instead of simply adding the Loxia.

The Loxia 85mm is significantly sharper than the Batis and probably has greater microcontrast, though I’ve always loved the Batis 85mm rendering. I really really need to shoot my Batis lenses a whole lot more. The 135mm is really special imo.

I absolutely love my Loxia 35mm! It’s easily the worst of the Loxias and I regard it as useless wide open, and not even very good at 2.8. What makes it so egregiously atrocious (to my eyes) is it suffers from astigmatism, which looks awful to me. But, stopped down as a landscape/cityscape lens it is stellar and the 35mm focal length tends to serve me more than my 21mm or 85mm. I shoot it into the sun (sunsets) and have never seen any ghosting or flares, just those phenomenal classic Loxia sunstars and contrast. Not saying the lens doesn’t have ghosting or flares, only that I’ve not seen them.

Welcome David, alway's enjoyable to see your work.

No doubt, I feel your pain, as 18 & 25 Batis render beautifully. Yes the 85 Loxia is another winner, a very popular lens for landscape shooters, and the 135 Batis, well as you say, its special. Love it's rendering for the kind of shooting I would do with it.!!

Appreciate your feed back on the Loxia 35. I did read its best at f8, f11 which would be where I would be using it. Good to hear your report regarding flaring & ghosting, as that was kind of putting me off, as I've been debating between it and the CV35apo.

I'm in agreement, vertical posts are always a challenge to display, I need to get into the habit of posting 1024 vertical instead of 1600.

I am really concerned about the 14gm.... not sure when its getting here but should be shipping in US in next 2-3 weeks. Wondering if I should just get the 20g and keep my 10. Or no 14 and just live with what i have. Im getting out in the next few weeks to take some pics but I am also pulling the 4x5 out and am buying a Fuji GSW690ii which is called the "texas Leica" its a 6x9 rangefinder. I am also buying a Garmin Montana 750i....... I wanted to get an emergency set up as I will be hiking in 115 degrees alone and in the middle of nowhere..... was going for the low end then my buddy Frank said no get one like mine then we can fiind each other when we separate.... I am only with Frank like 5x a year but lol guess i am going that direction.

I think the whole thing with giving up the cv10 is it is so special and the lox has been a steadfast lens but prices have gone down on them and now I am looking very in the hole with all these purchases.

Need to see more of the sunstar ability of that 14GM!!!!!!! hint to those that have it.

I've had it for a bit now but haven't tested very much, only went out once and the weather wasn't conducive to photography:-). I already had the 12-24 GM which is a phenomenally good lens but the 14GM is too much smaller and lighter that it made sense to use it for longer hikes where a couple of lenses is usually what I take with me.

I've been following the thread over a Fred Miranda and I'm a little disappointed with the rear filter solutions that have been tested and how they impact corner sharpness especially at wider apertures. I wasn't expecting to use the 14GM very often with NDs but nevertheless would have been a solution to filtering if I choose to do so instead of the ridiculously sized 150mm front filters.

I never owned the VC10, I did have the VC 12 for a period of time and I think the GM is a better lens from a purely IQ perspective, that's just my personal observation based on what I remember of the VC12 compared to the new 14GM. I think one area that the VC would be certainly better would be in the sunstar department, VC lenses are just phenomenally good for that if that is important to you.

If I get a chance this afternoon I'll step out and try to get some sunstars samples for you with the 14GM.

OK, some quick and dirty 14GM sunstars shot at mid day through the trees so obviously not the best way to shot them but it should give you and idea of what they look like. I think they like would be a bit better defined under better conditions.

Yeah I just read that on FM. Nisi has the front filter holder for it but its 450 bucks and one more big thing to haul.
