Lee, just had a thought, if you put your MSM rotator horizontal so that the rotator is pointing directly upwards you could use it for Timelapse to get a pan while timelapsing

Yes, I think you have to turn it over iirc. Never tried it. I've only used it the once for stars  Keiran wants to try a timelapse at some point but I'm not sure about the editing programs for that. Something to look into.

I was hoping this weekend was going to be good, but it's only Sat/Sun at the moment. We're torn between Durdle door on the south coast or Stonehenge!

A Milkyway shot over Stonehenge would be epic.

I know! I think Keiran wants it more than me! I am in desperate need of a coastal fix though. I was hoping to go down to the coast Friday evening for sunset, night skies, blag Saturday, maybe find a campsite, shoot Sat/Sun night then head back during Sunday day. Weather isn't looking good for both nights though. Plus he said he has a lot of school work to do for exam prep so....

both would be amazing but Stonehenge Astro would be epic!

Another idea I just had was to polar align the tracker as normal but set it to rotate in the wrong direction. You could then create one of those star trail photos out of stacked images that rotate around Polaris.

My thinking is the rotation in the wrong direction will help accelerate the star trails since you effectively have things moving at twice the speed so it should cut down the total time required to shoot enough shots for a full spiral.

All hypothetical at this stage but it sounds right in my head :-P

PS - I’m ordering mine tonight, your previous image tipped me over the edge

Thanks for the link, super cool shots. I've been there a couple of times but always during the day, wasn't even sure you are allowed near the site after-hours

Yes. Alignment then setting the MSM to Southern halves your star trail capture time. Apparently, I've not tried it. Obviously a foreground blend is needed.

There has been a lot of discussion over a FM about the new Sony 14GM, the lens is more than plenty sharp for me.

I don't recall ever seeing a burrowing owl on a tree branch before. :-)

I've been there once. Shot it from the old road whilst passing. You can't actually get INTO the site. But can shoot from the boundary.

WOW!! 5D2, 50/1.4, February 2012!! I know exactly why this was, I was on my way back from Andover where I bought a 100/2.8 macro lens :)

This was low to the ground. Not high at all.
