I've been there once. Shot it from the old road whilst passing. You can't actually get INTO the site. But can shoot from the boundary.

WOW!! 5D2, 50/1.4, February 2012!! I know exactly why this was, I was on my way back from Andover where I bought a 100/2.8 macro lens :)

Nice. Stonehenge is almost as cool as the original Carhenge in Alliance, Nebraska. :p I made a visit to that ancient holy site back in 2007.

Cool shot...Policies might have changed since you'd been there, I went in 2015 (from London on the way to Frome) and you could definitely go into the site, almost all the way up to the stones. Not a terrible thing to do, though, as there are way too many people there imo, they ruin the photo, and then you get the road as a background. The way you shot it is better.

This was from the last time I was there in 2017, you weren't allowed to walk within the stones however the ring circling the monument lets you get pretty close. Thinking back now I think the first time I was there you were able to purchase access right into the stones but that was quite sometime ago probably early 2000s if I'm not mistaken. It's pretty crowded at times but I actually don't mind some humans in the frame to provide a sense go scale. Would love to be there at sunrise or sunset though.

Was the same for me, I couldn't go into the stones either... Wasn't on a very bright day, my photos of it aren't terrible unfortunately.

Your hopes of getting terrible photos were unfortunately dashed?? Interesting. ;)

Actually I looked at them and it wasn't so terrible, I think it's possible I didn't make much effort because the lighting wasn't cooperating so much, and I was on my way somewhere and couldn't wait for anything better.

Ah nice one, I figured if I was getting the tracker I may as well get the pollution filter too.

Not a good start with the Firecrest kit, the rotating ring that spins the CPL (and allows the holder to attach to the lens) pretty much jams at a point. I contacted format-hitech and they responded with

Hi Eddie,

We have recently come across this issue with a limited number of the 82-86mm rotating rings.

All our stocks have been checked and we have eliminated the faulty rings.

If you could pop this back to us in the post, cheapest method, I will get a replacement posted out to you.

Apologies for the problem.

Best regards

That's a bummer :-( Good response though in all fairness even if it is a pain!!

It's only for Stonehenge I considered a filter. Works out really well though because the 20G, 35GM, 85FE & Keiran's Samyang 12/2 are all 67mm filters :)

I just went for the square one to fit the holder.

In other news, I’m a moron. The filters had a paper cover on them held shut with a sticker. Decided to slice the sticker open with scissors and scratched the 10 stop filter!

Luckily it’s really faint and quite short so should be fine. Can’t believe I done that

Edit - are you going to try some 85mm stacked tracker shots ? I watched a YouTube video and the guy stacked a 100mm lens on the MSM and shot andromeda. The resulting image was insane

Went to a Classic Car meet two weeks ago. The Escort wouldn't start so luckily I gave the Daily a good clean the day before.

Parked it in the corner :-D

Found this place though that I wouldn't mind a few photos of the Escort in front of......

You wally!! Fingers crossed it has no impact on using it mate!

I've not really thought of doing longer focal lengths or deep space stuff yet. I might do 85mm images once I've got the hang of wider stuff & everything starts to come naturally. Deep space doesn't really interest me just yet. Plus I've only really got the 85mm with a reasonable aperture.

Yeah deep space has never been something I’ve wanted to do either but essentially same as you are doing now without foreground. I’ll try and find the video again and post it here. Couldn’t believe the colour from the dust clouds he got from stacking the single exposures

I know mate! Full on face palm moment, mind was elsewhere due to other distractions and as soon as I done it I realised how daft it was. Ah well :-P
