New lens, yeah, bought it used from B&H. Couldn't quite justify it for the full price, but the used one was nearly 25% cheaper, and it looks virtually new.

Bad day because absolutely everything went wrong, a project at work went pear-shaped, I was embarrassed in front of a lot of colleagues and external stakeholders, for separate reasons I was told that I wouldn't likely be considered for the promotion I was seeking, and I sure as hell should not have gone to the dentist because he 'fixed' something that didn't need to be and made my situation worse and now I regret even that part of the day.

Not sure if this is a stupid question, I'm wondering if the A1 or A9 can write to the SD cards at the speeds the cards are rated for? For example if an SD card has a write speed of 260 MB/s, does the camera actually transfer to the card at this speed?

Updating my gear signature to reflect the addition of the 35GM I got from Carlo... :)

The 35GM is being added to better serve me when I want to go on outings with multiple lenses. The smaller size/weight and the common 67mm filter size shared by my 24GM and Zeiss Batis 85 and 135mm lenses are a big plus.

I plan on continued use of my Sigma 35mm 1.2 | Art and have no interest in selling it.

Well after a few weeks of use the 85GM seems absolutely fine for what I shoot in terms of AF speed. I’ve shot bursts of my son riding towards me on his bmx with speed setting Mid (I don’t ever use high as end up with too many shots) and it pretty much nailed every shot on the A9ii. He wasn’t going really fast but as fast as anything I’d want to shoot in motion with that lens.

That’s great Eddie…I had always wondered if the 85GM focusing could keep up. It’s such a great rendering lens!

I’d love to own one myself and have given a lot of thought about it or the Sigma 85 DG DN | Art, but I’ve decided to stick with my Batis 85 and 135 due to size/weight and common 67mm filter thread.

My favorite thing about the 85GM is its spectacularly smooth bokeh with round bokeh-balls. And conversely that’s why I’ve failed to develop much GAS for the Sigma 85 DG DN | Art or Sony FE 135mm 1.8 GM: two otherwise superb incredibly sharp lenses that just don’t have the gorgeous oof blur rendering that I prefer in a long prime lens.

Another Spotted pardalote shot.

From Wiki: Although moderately common in all of the reasonably fertile parts of Australia (the east coast, the south-east, and the south-west corner) it is seldom seen closely enough to enable identification.

That is such a beautiful little bird. Reminds me of some of the Finches I had as pets when I was a lot younger.
Not sure if the hole you are pointing too is in the ground ( embankment ) or not, if it's the ground I would have thought they would have nested in trees instead.

Love our pardalotes but they're sure elusive
Never realised they have such small holes. Seen similar in sandy banks on our farm but never thought of these. Looked too small.
They'd nest in rock walls on a friend's place.

Love that Sea Eagle you posted Dave. Magnificent birds. Had one visit here (35km inland) few years back.

Trust you get your gear sorted quickly. I well know that thud!

Great to see you nabbed a RBWP. I've not seen one since we moved to the mountains.
I do miss them. But I've seen three Pileated WPs. Not imageable but maybe someday. Wondering
if I can entice them in.

Yes my EOS 200/2.8 is fine on the A1. Need to experiment on the A7C.
I do need a 300/2.8 and have been looking at used 300mm IS ii's at FM.
Remember Sony patented a 300 and 500 diffractive like the Nikkor PF's. I'd jump
in for those. But with the world spinning probably doubtful.
We're getting close on the whole house remodel so I'll have some play monies soon enough.
I did get Poof a Crosstrek in lieu of me getting a side-by-side but she needed it more. That would
have brought in several things I can't life (600/F4) haha :)

Yeah the 200/2.8 is such a gem. Glad I kept it all these years.

I can only relate to going to the dentist.
I had a cleaning two days ago. The hygeniest was flabberghasted in that it had been 11 years since a cleaning, yet she found
no plaque and the x-rays showed no cavities.
She asked my secret. I told her no sugar allowed in the diet, and lots of vinegar (with copious water/tea rinses after) with each meal except
breakfast haha!

No promotions for me now....just staying alive.

At least with A9, not even close.
Believe it or not, an EOS R can write to a UHS-II SD card faster than an A9.
With the best UHS-II SD cards, with write speed very close to the maximum read speed of 300 MB/s the A9 can write at about 150MB/s.
So half the rated speed.

The V rating shows that the card itself is rated for maximum possible read and write speed.

eg, the older UHS-I SD cards, Sandisk extreme Pro, Rated at 95MB/s are V30, ie 30MB/s minimum write speed.
I have a couple of Angelbird UHS-II 260MB/s cards, the slower ones. 260MB/s Read, 160MB/s Write. They are V60.
The faster Angelbird UHS-II 300MB/s cards are 300MB/s read, 260MB/s Write. They are V90.

Some cards, eg Sony Tough, the write speed is 290MB/s vs 300 MB/s read speed.
Some cards the write speed is much, much slower than read speed. eg Sandisk upgraded the 95MB/s Extreme Pro to 170MB/s, but that's Read only. Write speed unchanged.

They tunnel into embankments. Usually a 1 - 1.5m long tunnel to the actual nest chamber which is usually higher than the tunnel entrance.
They are beautiful.

Yes, love the Pardies. In Sydney they should be nest building about now. Finding nest holes is interesting but of little use. You could stake out a hole for hours and only get fractions of a second for a shot and possibly interfere with them. What is gold is to find the tree they strip for bark, to build nests. They both spend several minutes stripping tiny pieces of bark, leave with a beak full and return 10-20 minutes later. You can be very close to their bark tree and they just check you out for a bit when they arrive, from a nearby branch or tree, then go about collecting material.
