Thank you for all the pointers. that clip of the panning to the bedroom wasn't so good all the way that's why i cut it short. as for the osmo4, i added some weight to it to make it more stable. the gimbal is way too light without it. the desaturated feel, it's how it really looks so i keep that way. i shot using log with Filmic Pro.

I have the OM3 and have it attached to a gorillapod, since I also find the size a bit small. Like the look of the weights, seen some funny contraptions on how people make the gimbal better. Never tried filmic, the biggest thing I find hindering currently is the white balance..... if I could do that, would be happy

I think I know the answer, but would appreciate your thoughts. Yesterday I'm up flying and taking some shots. I ended up with these when I was shooting forward through the propeller. The shutter speed was high enough on the A7Riv but I was using the electronic, not mechanical, shutter. Is that why I'm getting stripes instead of a stopped propeller?

This was taken at 1/800th, f/4, iso 640. The same thing happened on images with shutter speeds 1/2000th and faster.

rolling shutter

1/250, while fast for cameras, slow for propellers

I had the same effect with another shot I took at 1/4000th and the three bladed prop was spinning around 2300 RPM on that one.

Next time I'll switch to mechanical shutter or use the A9II.

it's not that simple, the shutter speed is not the same as rolling shutter

exposure of 1/4000 seconds takes 1/250 of a second to acquire, the amount of time it takes the shutter mechanism to scan. To achieve this, the shutter essentially takes in less light by opening and starting to close soon after, before the first curtain closes. Global shutter that folks talk about, is the only way to avoid rolling shutter.

the phenomenon is similar to banding with the e-shutter, but with higher frequencies. Leaf shutters are currently the fastest around? fastest to scan, likely not fast enough based on your photo. blade would have one chopped line (estimate 1200 rotations per second based on photo).

it's possible to have no propellers if you sync it just right

Next time we're flying up the coast about an hour and I'll take both cameras. I'll have some time to see if I can sync the camera and the propeller. It's always fun to try new (to me anyway) things.

Do the tilting LCD "bend down" enough to view what you are shooting when holding the camera above your arms. Sometimes I have to do that on wedding dancy floors and it painful with stationary Canon DSLR screens.

Are you referring to shooting at knee height, waist level or overhead?

I find that the screen will flatten out and extend from the body enough to to the first two, and can be tilted downward enough to see if it is overhead. At least enough to get an idea of what you are shooting. not being a fully articulating screen, it won't rotate to be parallel to the floor high or low.

to the A1 crowd....again...

Are you seeing any of the glitches and issues that the FB group seems to be so rampant with? Memory card failures, corrupt cards, camera hanging or crashing, or freezing or just plain dying?

I was on the Capitol Reef portion of my trip, and had hiked about 6 miles and saw some hoodoos in the distance that were calling me. Hiked out and got way up on a precarious loose slope and realized I was tired and in a bad spot with no good light .... I should just go back to camp....... Slid my behind down the hill and out of danger was about 20 feet from the jeep one camera in my left hand and the A9 and 14gm in my right....... little 6 inch slope and both feet slide out i was airborne. I am pretty good at falling with cameras and have most of the time conditioned myself that Camera first body second....... Left hand hit first but back of hand camera up butt hit next and then my right hand hit the ground.... again back of hand first cupping the camera.......however the camera launched out upon the hit bouncing back in the air and then reaching the max from the strap which was around my neck that then yanked it back toward earth and.......... on the element.

It is now at sony repair so I will update as to what that costs and timing.

Got home and low and behold the NISI 14GM filter holder had arrived......GRRRRR that would have helped.
