I am referring to shooting overhead.

It tilts to about 45 degrees down the way so whilst not parallel to the ground it’s usually enough to still see what’s going on

I was on the Capitol Reef portion of my trip, and had hiked about 6 miles and saw some hoodoos in the distance that were calling me. Hiked out and got way up on a precarious loose slope and realized I was tired and in a bad spot with no good light .... I should just go back to camp....... Slid my behind down the hill and out of danger was about 20 feet from the jeep one camera in my left hand and the A9 and 14gm in my right....... little 6 inch slope and both feet slide out i was airborne. I am pretty good at falling with cameras and have most of the time conditioned myself that Camera first body second....... Left hand hit first but back of hand camera up butt hit next and then my right hand hit the ground.... again back of hand first cupping the camera.......however the camera launched out upon the hit bouncing back in the air and then reaching the max from the strap which was around my neck that then yanked it back toward earth and.......... on the element.

It is now at sony repair so I will update as to what that costs and timing.

Got home and low and behold the NISI 14GM filter holder had arrived......GRRRRR that would have helped.

Ouchhhh !!!, sorry to hear your misfortune, hope the repair is minimal, as well as injury to your body.

Have you ever considered using one of theses. I can take camera with lens and two other lenses, has water pouch, and hands free. I'll use my tripod if needed on the trek as a walking pole if things get hairy. Generally keep it in front of me on my waist. https://mountainsmith.com …ack-10-camera-lumbar-pack (external link)

You posting this on FB when it happened made me go and update my insurance policy...and change it from just my personal work to covering me all the time. I had several additions to the gear that were not on my policy.

Ouch! Sorry to see your new lens damaged like that. I'm curious though, did you try to take any shots with it after it was damaged? I am not suggesting you don't have it repaired, but I was wondering how much of that damage actually shows in the image.

Yamaha R1M. Meant for the track, but this was shot on the street. Notice that he's keeping an eye on me.

Absolute beast of a bike. The standard R1 is a blast to ride, would love a go of that though

lovely soft light...I wish we had such cool places like this nearby...anything near us with elevation changes is covered in trees, dense thick forest that you can't get to or access...

Yes it shows I could do wide and thin.... I missed an area of clean up on the top right here but middle was ok LOL

Can anyone recommend a tutorial in some form for shooting the Milky Way? I don't plan to use a tracker. A little less than a month for our trip to the Davis Mtns and a visit to the McDonald Observatory. Dark sky area in West Texas so there will be opportunities. TIA
