it probably doesnt matter too much as long as it's convenient, that is one of the highest criterias for me. I hold it in one hand to the left to mimmic OCF at a 45 degree angle, but if I'm too lazy, then it stays on camera.

I have a variety of lights, and bigger will produce better results, but then it gets to a point it's not portable anymore.

cubes are fairly small
gopro is tiny
amaran AL-M9 is a light I have similar to the godox you linked and should be fairly comparable.

one thing I do NOT have is a bicolor light as I think it wastes too much output on separate LED's. I simply use the snap on gel's instead.

btw, the godox looks like a clone of the ulanzi, which goes for a bit less: https://www.amazon.com …le-Dimmable/dp/B089ZS8CC6 (external link)

and godox doesnt look like the make a whole lot of these small lights, might be using their name to justify a higher price. All of the lights I've used can get VERY bright, and work great for fill unless heavily backlit by the sun.... then you gotta get really close.

I like that the "Godox" branded has a read-out on the back. I looked at the ones you linked and they didn't. I'll look a little closer to see how they adjust. One other thing is the Godox has a built in magnet so you can stick it to metal if you want. Gimmicky? Maybe. Some of the others you mentioned were just more than I would care to pay for my limited use. Thanks again.

I have a little cheap light like that. Some random Amazon make with adjustable brightness and wb. Actually smaller than my phone and I've used it to light buildings at night when doing astro! Not sure exactly what the 'spread' of light is like for portraits though unless it is bounced.

I hadn't thought of that use since I don't do much sky stuff but plan to do more when we camp at darksky locations. The color change might be a nice addition as well.

I recently published my first blog post on my site. You have seen the images many times already  but hopefully you enjoy the writing and how my photography transformed this year.

Sample:

“The year has been full of challenges for many. I am filled with gratitude that I had the opportunity to take refuge in nature. I am also grateful for quality time spent with my family. In this blog, I want to share with you some of my favorite images from the year and highlight how my photography has evolved. Unlike 2020, this year has been creatively rewarding as I embraced a new approach to my photography.”

Does anyone use a filter case at all please? I know filter use seems a bit less popular now than it used to be.

I'm after something for up to half a dozen 67mm round filters but I do want something well made & with good internal material as not to scratch the glass. Doesn't necessarily have to be severe impact or weather proof etc

I'm more after space saving & organisation.

Brand recommendations welcome please! :)

I'm trying to sell a used Sony A9 on Craigslist and had hoped to do so in time to order an A7R IV before the Sony Holiday Savings end date of Jan 2nd. I'm about to run out of time.

I have an A9 II, so I don't need the A7R immediately, but don't want to miss the current $500 discount.

Any thoughts out there on the likelihood that Sony will extend the sale or simply make $2998 the new retail price of the A7R IV?

I do but I'm from the film era and haven't learned how to do everything in PS yet.
Here a couple of shots from the camera without using PS but with a filter over the lens in one shot and one without the filter taken at the same time.

The filters used were an inexpensive set, paid about $20.00 for the set which came with 12 filters, case and filter holder for the square slide in type of filters. Adapters to fit different lenses was extra.

So I ordered the other brand that Charlie had mentioned, the Ulanzi, then canceled and bought the Godox ones. We will see how it goes.

Thank you Lee! It’s very much appreciated! I plan to continue my journals next year on various photography related topics.

I wouldn't mind doing some photo 'story telling' next year when out & about. Who'd be interested I don't know.... :-D And it would have to be photos/text as those skills are better than my video skills :p:-P

Like when I done that last minute beach camp in September - I learnt a lot from that I can tell you!

I want to do more though next year. Hopefully with my boy & some clear night skies too. I also have a workmate who does a lot of walking & campsite camping - I'm actually out with him tomorrow - and he loves the night sky, but isn't a photographer as such aside from his phone.

I'm actually slowly building up my wild/off grid camping stuff so should be better prepared next time.

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas and opened lots of camera gear from under the tree. For me it was a Sony 100-400mm G lens :), just hope the wife lets me use it once in a while as she seemed to like it a lot too as she shoots with a Sony A7r4 also.

Is this kinda of like giving your wife fishing gear as a present only in reverse. :O :)

Nothing strictly camera related for me but I do have a Capture Clip v3 on order.

No lenses on the want list.

Camera body...... I'm still sitting things out right now.

I use the clik elite case Lee but it’s not very compact, protects the filters well though. I’m probably going to switch to the case that came with my new (bought last year) hi tech format filters though as it’s a tad smaller.

Edit - it’s this one but seems to be discontinued. I’ve had it for years since canon days https://www.amazon.co.uk …lter-Camera/dp/B004SN0VDQ (external link)
