it probably doesnt matter too much as long as it's convenient, that is one of the highest criterias for me. I hold it in one hand to the left to mimmic OCF at a 45 degree angle, but if I'm too lazy, then it stays on camera.
I have a variety of lights, and bigger will produce better results, but then it gets to a point it's not portable anymore.
cubes are fairly small
gopro is tiny
amaran AL-M9 is a light I have similar to the godox you linked and should be fairly comparable.
one thing I do NOT have is a bicolor light as I think it wastes too much output on separate LED's. I simply use the snap on gel's instead.
btw, the godox looks like a clone of the ulanzi, which goes for a bit less: https://www.amazon.com …le-Dimmable/dp/B089ZS8CC6
and godox doesnt look like the make a whole lot of these small lights, might be using their name to justify a higher price. All of the lights I've used can get VERY bright, and work great for fill unless heavily backlit by the sun.... then you gotta get really close.
I like that the "Godox" branded has a read-out on the back. I looked at the ones you linked and they didn't. I'll look a little closer to see how they adjust. One other thing is the Godox has a built in magnet so you can stick it to metal if you want. Gimmicky? Maybe. Some of the others you mentioned were just more than I would care to pay for my limited use. Thanks again.
I have a little cheap light like that. Some random Amazon make with adjustable brightness and wb. Actually smaller than my phone and I've used it to light buildings at night when doing astro! Not sure exactly what the 'spread' of light is like for portraits though unless it is bounced.
I hadn't thought of that use since I don't do much sky stuff but plan to do more when we camp at darksky locations. The color change might be a nice addition as well.
but hopefully you enjoy the writing and how my photography transformed this year.
