Realised yesterday one of my hard drives in my desktop PC had failed. It was the 3TB one I store all my video footage and edits on. Luckily it wasn’t a drama as I do automated local backups using Acronis and an external hard drive (in addition to cloud backup via Backblaze). I’m glad I added the Acronis layer though as it would have been a slow process to download it all from Backblaze. After being stung multiple times in the past I’ve learned my lesson with backup strategy!

Orion on Film!!

Yes, I do appreciate this isn't technically perfect, not super sharp, certainly not a clinically clean digital image that we are used to these days.

But..... The Orion constellation, caught on ASA200 expired film, for a 4 minute exposure using the Move Shoot Move tracker.

I'm happy with that!

Couldn't see the image here but it loaded at Flickr. Just excellent work.
I've got to live my deep space astro through you. I just can't handle the temps here to go for it anymore.
Definitely a hats off to you for going for this with film.

Payback for all the effort.
I've got more physical effort into this shot than any other.
Just moving the hawk tower last week alone took a whole day (the concrete blob at the bottom
weighs at minimum 200 pounds not counting the weight of the tower). I move it close to ten feet.
But it was warm that day, hovering between 25 and 28F.
I do need to pay attention to the temps when the little Schnauzer is out there. She wont keep her booties
on and will play forever not knowing tissue damage in prolonged contact with the ice and snow. So I set
a timer on the phone to annouce when to get her back in for a warmup.
I did make sure she was inside the house when I dropped the tower and later in the day when I raised it back up.
One slip might have been a pierced dog.

This is about as deep space as I am willing to get I think.... I might try an A7 Orion nebula at 135mm one day but that's more out of curiosity than really wanting it. I do much prefer the 'landscape' style night sky images to be fair.

Thanks though Robert :)

Sounds like hard work in those temperatures. As you live images through me, I live the bird & wildlife through you & others on here. I've no real interest in the taking of that style of image but the results you all get are amazing.

-8 wow. Lovely looking cat :-)

Edit - I assumed you meant Celsius? But if -8 Fahrenheit that’s even colder than I thought you meant (like -22 c )

Sorry, I forget this is an international crowd sometimes :-) It was indeed -8f, so yes, very cold at -22c. It currently starting to snow pretty hard here in coastal Maine. We are under a blizzard warning this morning and it is 10f or -12c. A quick phone snap of the front of my house right now.

OK, after waiting a while to receive it ( shipped from China ) I finally have the RolandPro cover for the Sony 200-600. Thanks Robert for recommending it, it's a fantastic covering and I really happy with the purchase. The covering looks like it's very well manufactured and fits the lens perfectly. The one thing I wish they would have changed is the covering for the lens hood, it was almost impossible to slide on because it's extremely tight. I would have preferred if they added the elastic fabric separator like they did in some other sections so it would be easier to apply. Overall though really happy with it.

I really like the RolandPro cover for the 200-600. I also have one for my 100-400. When I bought my used 100-400 it came with a LensCoat cover, but it was clearly inferior to the RolandPro and I replaced it.
