As with 98% of what I am shooting these days, it is related to the school...since my daughter doesn't do Swim Team, that team has not had me there to shoot an event...I am trying to cover more...but...I have never photographed a swim meet...until today. I generally am not afraid to jump in and photograph something I have never done before. There is a subject, there is a story, there are cameras and lenses involved...I think I can handle it. But wow, what a crazy thing a big swim meet is...I had fun. I chose this image for tonight, its not from our team, no faces are shown, just the sheer power and action. And this image has the three stages of this stroke, with the 3 leaders in the race, the alignment was what I liked most. THe AF on the A1 picks up on the eye just as soon as it breaks through the water, or the head when the eye isn't visible...it is amazing how fast the AF is on something like this.

Anyone pre-ordered the RV? Is it worth it or it's better to get the latest RIV?

Now that it has lossless small/medium/large raw, I like to go back to the R series because of my occasional portrait and landscape. Do you think Sony will add that features to the RIV via firmware update? that's the reason I get rid of my RIV, 61mp is too large for real estate.

Selling my loxia 21 if anyone here is interested. Looking for £550. Sorry to let it go but I have the 24GM and the 16-35GM so it’s not getting as much use anymore (plus I need to fund the Tamron 35-150).

Hi all, I’m lucky enough to be off to Rome in a couple of weeks, for a long weekend.

Have decided to take the camera and one lens. Options are 16-35GM or the 24-105. Leaning towards the wide angle. Any views to help me choose please?

I think the Loxia 21 would suit you better :p

Seriously though I would lean towards the wide angle personally if you are only taking one lens. Inside places like the Vatican etc you will be glad you took a wide angle when shooting the amazing ceilings etc.

If I was free to roam on buying camera gear I probably would take it off you. Always had my eye on those sunstars! But sadly my sensible side often prevails!!

And thanks, agree on the wide angle, I will post some favs when I get back. :-)

Even with all of the crazy in life this year...I have been working on my work space at home to make it more functional. I got rid of my big giant custom made desk and replaced it with a smaller one, lighter in color, I also got a matching garage tool cabinet...sounds like a strange idea but it is perfect. It has great slide drawers, and I can pull up under the big one on top and use the counter to organize gear when preparing to go shoot. And this weekend I finally found the monitor I want, I got tired of dual screens, and went to one big 34" wide flat panel. I don't want a curved one, so most of the really wide ones are curved and that was a no go for me. It will take some getting used to, but it has enough real estate on it to open two windows at the same time, and since my desk is open, I can just slide in my chair one way or another to line up better with the primary work area. The reduced clutter on the desk is a bonus, and I am working on cable management...there are a lot of wires. The big cabinet also gave me a place for me turntable and receiver to sit, and being narrower than the bookshelves I had, I can fit my floor speakers next to it. Eventually some nice reference speakers will sit up there instead.

Looks and functions great Travis. The tool cabinet is a perfect idea: not even a teeny bit strange. I love seeing people’s work spaces, so I appreciate you posting yours.

I too am presently doing a project for our work space (a making-things-room). At the moment I’m refinishing a crappy old kitchen island and repurposing it as a 3d printing station.
