As I recall.....and i am old and forgetful the sigma mc11 adapter was the best overall then meta then the rest

I never adapted the lens, but yeah I remember if it's sigma, go with their sigma adapter. and it even works well with other brands. meta has faster focusing but was and still is way too expensive for me to afford.

I've not used any Canon lenses on adapters. Being on the original A7 with its crap AF I never even tried the body/lens connection as I knew it wouldn't work well if at all. From what I gather, A mount Sony lenses adapt better but how much better I don't know.

I remember Robert saying the adapted A mount lens works the same as it should on the E mount. but it didn't improve the a7's awesome focusing :)
was shooting for my cousins wedding recently, and boy that camera.. 'cu-clunk!'

I’ve had zero G.A.S for a long time now but this upcoming vacation is getting to me.

I’ve felt I need a tele lens for quite some time now as I only got the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 and I’m very tempted by the Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8! I’m kinda worried there will be a G2 lens soon but I’m still willing to take the risk.

Anyone own this lens and think it’s worth getting it for travel especially?

I have it. For me I can't fault it really and it's often in the bag alongside the 35mm or 40mm

Do you feel it’s heavy carrying it around? Or not too bad along with the 35mm?

I wouldn't say excessively heavy. If it's on the camera I tend to hold onto the tripod foot I bought if hand carrying it short distances. It is pretty compact though alongside the 35GM imo

The MC11 is one that I had been looking at and it seems it’ll work fine for my Sigma lens but not for my Canon lenses.

That also might be an alternative, buy the Sigma adapter for the Sigma lens and look into the best adapter for the Canon lenses.

Definitely worth looking into, might be cheaper in the long run.

I only have a couple of Canon lens left back from my Canon days (17 TSE and the 200 F2 ), I use the MC11 without any problems on both of those lenses. The TSE is manual focus of course but even with the Canon 200 F2 the autofocus works well with the Sony A!, focus speed is not as quick as on a Canon body but it's perfectly adequate for static shooting, not workable for BIF. I've used the MC11 with multiple Sony bodies without any issues R2,R3 and now the A1.

Thanks, will sleep on it and maybe buy one in the morning.

I own the 70-180mm and I like it for more fixed shooting, but for event use where I'm shooting and moving quickly and can't stabilize myself I find that I get a lot of blurry shots. The lack of IS can be a liability in this regard, as IBIS still isn't as good as OIS on the telephoto side of things.

But as a lightweight telephoto lens for travel, there isn't a better option IMO. A typical 70-200 f2.8 with proper OIS is not a fun lens to carry.

Murphy's law states you will find it after you have ordered the replacements. Trust me, I know.

My problem is I have searched the jeep 20x. The house bags room etc 50x. The place is 3 hours from Phoenix just off the hwy they say they searched the room and the parking lot. So in my head its lying in the grass (camouflaged because I have that cover on it) lying there waiting. If I did loose it on the morning shoot its just off the path 1/4 mile from the parking lot.........

so in my head it will always be right there for me to find.

Replacement arrives today hopefully my hording ADD brain cells will let go

my time with the Sony Xperia phone will be short lived...for video it was nice, great quality...photos were meh...the photo interface was outstanding, just like we are used to in Alpha cameras...but the phone as a phone was absolute crap...horrible call audio, terrible reception and miserable connectivity to my headphones and cars...I could have lived with the other faults, but when a phone sucks at being a phone it is no use to me.

so...a photo to make me feel better...More Tetons.

Thanks for the feedback on the phone. That is consistent with what I have heard. Plus now that I am old I am really liking the fold 3 and how big I can make my phone

Tetons are great love the work coming out of that trip
