I have been trying to decide on getting an FX3 to have a dedicated video camera so that I am not trying to switch the A1 back and forth from video to stills setup...mainly when using the slider and gimbal...I want to be able to have them both setup...so the FX3 was looking like a likely choice...then Sony announced this thing today...and now I have to consider it...at nearly $2k less....
https://www.bhphotovideo.com …s_camera_black.html/specs (external link)

the a1 doesnt keep video/stills separate? i thought they would had brought that over since it came out after the a7s3.
Is that the a7c replacement?

So my new job as the GM of Development for WIld Horse Pass on the Gila River Indian Reservation allows me to go to events. We happen to have one of the only Drag race courses ..... So we had a good event this weekend. Unfortunately the NHRA has not negotiated a deal that is economical for us so this was their last year. They made an impassioned plea and decked out a car for the community. My job will be to build an overpass from the freeway thru the track -?

I am not good at this type of photography but I saw the marketing guy and said the Tribe Governor is here and he did not have a photographer..... so I became the photographer for the Tribe and was escorted on to the track ....... I dont like any of my pics LOL but got some and am still working on a bunch.

Would the FX30 be an option? Not sure about over there but here it’s even cheaper than the new ZV-E1

The functions are different and separate but I want to have two cameras setup so that I don't have to break down the video setup....the a9 is not what I want for video because of the limited 4k options.

I don't want the crop body.

I keep forgetting it’s APSC sorry. For FF maybe the ZV-E1 would be the better option. Not sure about the prices there but maybe even an a7IV would give you something similar but work well for stills too, although some of the AI features on ZV are quite nice.

The free version of Davinci Resolve is ridiculously good for free software.

The size of the ZV-E1 is what is more tempting than anything...on the gimbal the A1 starts to get heavy fast and at the end of the day shooting, my forearms are gassed out.

If you can get it to work...I could do everything just fine, right up to the export point...and then it would crash 99 times out of 100 on a computer purpose built to edit video. I had to give up on it.

Import was my only problem, specifically video format settings. Once I worked that out, I have found it really easy. First, simple trim a single clip and export. Then combine multiple clips. Then add video and audio transitions. Then replace audio. Then add title screens. I love it. I have used it on 2 laptops and both have been very stable.

Being a Hoya filter it shouldn't really hurt the IQ too much. It might cause some flare though if sunlight hits it on a particular angle.

You can buy tools for removing filters. I had one stuck once whilst away for a few days - pressing it flat against the bottom of my footwear to grip on the [clean] rubber sole was enough to grip the filter whilst I turned the lens ;)

I will have to try that tip Lee, I think I will try to remove the filter as although it was a nice freeby on the lens, I think due to pixel peeking there is a subtle loss of IQ and a slight reduction in Brightness as I have to dial in + 1 EC to get the correct exposure.

Yeah I’d imagine weight would be a big advantage if it!

The weight is the one thing I am looking at the most...but...I watched several reviews on it last night...only one memory card slot...that is a deal breaker for me working on client work...I really think it is more targeted at the people that walk around with the camera in their hand, arm out pointed at themselves. That isn't me. Back to considering the FX3.

That's the place on the outskirts of Bath isn't it? I done a walk there a few years ago, started from by the racecourse.....?

Yep! Nice views, the kids got bored where it followed the race course , as it was a bit flat, and long, funnily enough!

You’re gonna need to produce worse looking pics than that, if you’re going to demonstrate the need for a camera upgrade!! ;-)a
