Sold my X-S10 so one last picture of it. AUD pricing for it is quite high so I'll wait to see if we get an a7C II this year then decide what to get.

Man the new AI Denoise in lightroom is amazing! Anyone tried it?

(Not sure how new it is but I only noticed it today)

I like it, but it’s a lot slower than topaz denoise on my m1 Mac. The results are really nice and it’s cool to not have to pay on top of the Photoshop plan. If I didn’t already have topaz I’d be happy with this version for sure.

I’ve never used the topaz one but heard good things. On my MacBook Pro M1 Pro the LR version seems quite quick. I haven’t timed it but it feels like it’s done in under 30 secs so can live with that. I’ve got 32 gig ram so that possibly helps?

I think it does a decent job but I don’t like how it creates a new file. I prefer Topaz DeNoise in PS since you can put it on the same/new layer and mask it in for certain spots only.

Yeah the new file was weird to me at first but the more I think about it with raw editing being non destructive I suppose it makes sense being a separate file

That could be the case. I know that the GPU on Macbook Air that I use is inferior and I only have 16gb of RAM. Takes about 1 minute for me per file with the hardware I'm using, so I'm sure that the difference comes down to what computer is being used.

Also the limitation of LR not having layers etc. I seen a comparison of LR vs DXO Pure Raw 3 vs Topaz with the latter being the least effective followed by LR the DPR3 being the best.

I am going to do less and less noise reduction on images in general...maybe not my architecture and design stuff...but I am starting to feel like they are too clean, too perfect when they lack noise of any kind, and then they look too digital...to Ai...and I want to do anything but have my images look like Ai...

I have spent the last two days wading around in a Creek chasing fly fisherman...what a blast...put the 30FPS to use and am happy to report that no cameras got submerged...well, except the GoPro.

I think it’s awesome!!

I think it’s got its place, mostly for me on the telephoto stuff. Every time I use the 200-600 I’m super impressed by the images. But it is relatively slow, it’s a beast to hold so shutter speeds need to be decent, and really fast for BIF. It’s brilliant for say iso6400 shots, especially when cropping in and you don’t want to lose any detail.

The fact that it creates a separate file doesn’t bother me as I won’t use it that often.

I probably won’t use it on people shots as the normal NR is fine for that as I’m rarely cropping much.

But I also agree with Travis. They do look different with a hint of AI. I think 30% denoise seems to be a good balance.

The new photoshop tools and general AI world is fairly terrifying though. Pretty confident I would give give up the denoise feature in LR to not have the emerging level of AI in the world.
