Charlie I have surfed-googled looking for an extra 12-24 lens cap to skeletonize for 'normal' filters
but so far can't find one.

There's a thread on FM for the 77mm filter trick, filter call not needed, and won't work. You can put up a 100mm filter right up to the lens, too small.

So im getting a a7r3 and the 24-70 gm for christmas. Is a 64g memory card enough or do i need 128. Finally what about the read speed? 95mb/s good enough?

Cost wise, ide go for 128gb 95mb/s cards, around 50 a pop on Amazon. Shooting high framerates, the cards can fill up fast, and even 64 is generally good enough, but doing video in addition can really eat up space. I like not having space anxiety issues.

I know much faster cards can be had for slot 1, but the buffer seems a bit tough to hit even with slower cards.

Nice Christmas gift, good luck finding a camera.

I wasn't being snarky Jamie. Legitimately asking if you can just uninstall CC and install a 'clean' version of LR6 with the last update because again, I'm open to cancelling my CC membership and using Capture one and PS CS6 whenever I need to do anything heavier in post.

No I got that it was well intended and I'm in the same position I use C1 and when necessary hand off to CS6. What's in CS6 should last me for a long time.

Did you consider that maybe no one else has had the samr issue and we dont know how to help...

I can say that responses such as yours to David wont persuade anyone to offer suggestions...

If you are so peeved at Adobe...move on to something else...

Travis I considered it and thought it would be implicit in my opening remark "Most folks I've read on here are happy with their CC subscription, I haven't subscribed"

So I think I was looking for feedback from someone in a similar situation to me. I figured most people wouldn't be in a position to help but it seems my anger/frustration at the position Adobe stuck me in angered/frustrated CC happy campers.

What I do baulk at in your reply regarding "If you are so peeved at Adobe......."

Don't be daft. Asking a Scotsman to let a big bully Corp get away with his money <LOL>

I think you need to find someone with a bit more knowledge about computers than what you have so that they can work on doing your installs and reinstalls, especially when it comes to shared programs. I dont know if adobe automatically installs updates to cc and then bills you. I find that hard to believe. But lets just say they did upgrade you from a standalone to a cc subscription. Just cancel the subsscription and rollback to the standalone program. Adobe is not forcing you to do anything. None of this is written in any ill manner. Most situations are user error more than anything else

but you lose resolution in crop mode right? have you noticed any DR variations in crop mode?

You get 18MP in crop mode....which is fine for most things so long as you don't crop any more in post.

This was a quick and dirty test so I can't speak to the DR. Apparently you lost about a stop of DR in crop mode.

DR is less of a big deal for telephoto FOV IMO, since you're pulling less of the background into the frame.

I never cared for UHS-II on the a9 since it was able to write 24mp files to good old UHS-1 cards quickly enough. But with the a7rIII I find myself wanting cards that can keep up with the speed of the camera itself. But man those cards are $$$$$

What are our current options for E-mount full frame 35mm lenses with AF? What are the rumors for next year? I really want to sell my B25 and get a 35mm, but I'm not crazy about going way down to the 2.8, though the size is compelling...

First image is the Sigma 135 wide open....second is the 85 GM wide open in crop mode

The ability to map crop mode to a button on the a7rIII makes this type of comparison more valid. The FOV is really close. Interestingly enough, it seems that the 85GM has a 1 stop t value advantage over the adapted Sigma 135, so the noise difference is null between the two. It's mainly just a resolution difference....that and the 85GM has better AF

for me, when put side by side like this there is a visible difference between the DOF fall off of the two lenses.

Yeah. Cropped 85 is a little wider than 135mm FOV, so the DoF is slightly less shallow.

I think it's just the Sony FE 35m f1.4 at the moment. We're all waiting on a Batis 35mm f2.0

Who wants the new CV 35mm 1.4? I have become such a 35mm nut that I wish I could collect (most of) all the available and upcoming native e-mount 35mm lenses. Eager to see how the new CV renders. Not giving up my FE 35mm or Loxia 35mm, but if the CV brings something interesting to the table I might be tempted.

I need help. :p

i can send you some more links to more 35 mm lenses - wait...is that the "help" you needed?? ;-)a;-)a

How about the new Samyang 35mm 1.4 for e-mount? It has AF and is $799 brand new. Fred Miranda is pleased (hard to do) with his copy: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1512211/2 (external link)

Or wait a few more months and Sigma should be releasing their 35mm for Sony E as well (I think).

Agree, the 12-24mm seems impressive. I like the rendering/colors of the CV lenses more, but overall the 12-24mm is probably a better lens. If I got one, I wouldn’t much bother with filters. But, could try the lifehack of snugging a thin-ring 77mm filter within the lens shade. It's supposed to vignette-free around the 15mm+ range; Charlie can say what the exact limits are.

I've all but abandoned square filters; too cumbersome. And unless I'm trying to slow down exposure for waterfalls, I don't do much LE work. The main filter for me is a CPL.

According to Roger Cicala who owns lensrentals, he is not to fond of the 12-24 but loves the 16-35GM. He thought it was better than Canon's new 16-35III

Might be better off with primes in that range.

Yeah I wonder what route Sigma will go with their FE mount glass though. Large lenses that favor high optical quality and fast apertures? Or more compact type lenses like a 35 F2, or a 35 1.4 that is similar to the voigtlander glass....fast aperture, but not designed to be really sharp wide open, therefore allowing for smaller designs.

I hope its Sigma makes smaller type glass. Sony has given us enough big expensive glass already.
