The Sonnar on the rx1 looks deceptively small...but when you look at the lens once its pull off the body, you can see that its longer that it appears. The rear element extends into the rx1 body by quite a bit and sits right up against the sensor. Couldn't really use that same optical design on FE mount since the flange distance would be different.

I think the FE 35 f2.8 was Sony's attempt to mimic the Sonnar in the RX1, but obviously some compromises needed to be made.

I'm interested in seeing what Sigma has in store with their FE mount 35, but they're M.O. with the Art line isn't small glass. They sort of disregard size considerations altogether and throw massive corrective elements into the mix to get the best optical quality they can.

QUOTED IMAGE

Carlo super informative, thanks. I'd bet a lot of the lens of the RX10iv goes into the body as well. Hey, learned something.
I'm sticking with the 35/2.8 and the SigART35 when I've been eating my Cheeries on a regular basis ;)

Interesting...when I placed my order, the camera was in stock but now, under 'my orders', it shows back ordered. I guess I didn't hit the button quick enough.

Well frak! But remember (assuming you went with B/H or Adorama) lately interesting things happening, like people getting two bodies.
So fingers crossed. I just want mine before the February trip to Florida so I can pit it against the a9. I think we'll going to stab at SEOs again but no camera body can help me there, what
would help is a bucket of mice ;)

I saw Brian Smith shared the link too this morning.

Congrats Gene. It has free overnight shipping too.

Maybe you got the last unit.

Thanks everyone. It looks like my order made it in time after all. :-)

I politely as for an image of the paracord diamond in use on your hand.
I love PeakDesigns, have spent a boockoo of monies with them but the clutch is in my mind for
portrait studio shooters eh??? Not so helpful for me and the big lenses attached. Am I missing something?

I dont use the other flavors due to the bulk.

My ILC-50, think thank digital holster 5/10, they really cant take much bulk at all. When I have my neckstrap, I'm either carrying bare camera or think tank retrospective 7. For the most part, I simply go paracord for bare basics drop prevention. The diamond knot has served it's purpose for many years, been using the same cord since my canon years!

EDIT: I notice this one doesnt use a diamond, maybe only half diamond. I do have another on my R2 that uses a full diamond, that specific knot does not come loose. http://www.animatedknots.com/lanyard/index.php?Reflection=L&LogoImage=LogoG..&Website=&Categ=decorative

I really hate all of you moving to the v3!!!!!!

But maybe just maybe I'll be ok if they release that A9R - 75mpx beast.

I still think at this point a Hasselblad X1D is my next Landscape camera........ when I win big in Vegas

I just had to Google it. Check out this diagram. The rx10 lens goes almost to the very back of the body.

Having seen Matt Grangers video on the riii, it’s left me a little meh, about it. I think I may hold out for a A9r if it ever comes out

The Canon tilt-shifts worked great on my unflocked metabones. Light leaks weren’t a problem, but internal reflections caused problems with light sources just off frame. Those are generally avoidable except with some interiors. Hopefully a flocked adapter would solve the issue.

However adapter alignment has to be perfect. That’s where I lucked out...my Metabones IV is so well aligned that I could never tell a performance difference between Canon-mount lenses on the a7R II vs 5DS R.

Thank you David and Gene for the advice. Did you own the 17 or 24mm TS-E?

Because the f1.4 isn't something I like to carry all the time. It's not that heavy, but really bulky.

yah i had the 35F2.8 for a bit and i really like the size and focusing speed. as far as i remember, sharp and great colors too.

I noticed Riii's are in stock at B/H....any takers?

Just got my preapproval for my first house, so my purchases will have to wait until the house is closed on. Pains me as the a7rIII looks ideal.

try peak design's clutch or cuff.

clutch
nice and tight, bulky looking
https://www.peakdesign.com/product/straps/clutch (external link)

cuff
small, a bit long but that gives you more freedom
https://www.peakdesign.com/product/straps/cuff (external link)

gordy strap
simple, not alot of room to move around
http://www.gordyscamerastraps.com/ (external link)

I bought the V2 of the Peak Design Leash and Cuff, the Leash is much better. The Cuff has a pull to tighten which ideally sounds nice, but it’s either too loose or so tight that it cuts off movement and circulation. In hindsight I wouldn’t have spent the $40for it.

So i am tired of the OEM Sony strap that comes with the camera and am thinking i would prefer a small one that just goes around your hand. Are any of you guys using something like that, that you like?

I'm using the Gordy's camera strap on my A6500 and love it.

Congrats Gene. I got the go ahead for a new lens. Problem is what to get? A 35mm would be nice. I’m already covered in the wide end. A Canon tilt shift lens would be a good idea for business but I’m unsure of their performance adapted.

I have used the 17, 24 and 45 TSE with no issues on a IV-T adapter. If I start doing more architectural work next year I will add at least the 17.
