Thank you David and Gene for the advice. Did you own the 17 or 24mm TS-E?

I’ve owned both. The best one, by a good margin, is the 24mm. It’s sharper, less CA, and has an 82mm for easy filter usage. Both are excellent though.

I dont use the other flavors due to the bulk.

My ILC-50, think thank digital holster 5/10, they really cant take much bulk at all. When I have my neckstrap, I'm either carrying bare camera or think tank retrospective 7. For the most part, I simply go paracord for bare basics drop prevention. The diamond knot has served it's purpose for many years, been using the same cord since my canon years!

EDIT: I notice this one doesnt use a diamond, maybe only half diamond. I do have another on my R2 that uses a full diamond, that specific knot does not come loose. http://www.animatedknots.com/lanyard/index.php?Reflection=L&LogoImage=LogoG..&Website=&Categ=decorative

I just had to Google it. Check out this diagram. The rx10 lens goes almost to the very back of the body.

Wow that is incredible. I'm even more impressed with the 10iv now. Great find and thanks for sharing.

So some of you might remember my little fiasco with the failed external hard drive. I finally got around to putting my backup system together.... I researched NAS setups and what-not but came up with something pretty simple but with a lot of redundancy.

Basically my current catalog is sitting on a 1tb external SD (faster and less prone to failure). My personal raws and client raws being currently worked on sit there.

I have a separate 4tb USB HDD that holds my older 'archived' photos. I also use this drive as a backup drive for my 1TB SSD, using Carbon Copy Cloner.

On top of that, I subscribed to backblaze, and am using that as a cloud based backup of my 4TB HDD. The subscription is a very reasonable $5 a month, for unlimited storage....cheaper and more secure than having a separate physical drive.

So I have a double redundancy of my 'current' files, and a cloud based back-up of my archived drive. I like the idea of having both a physical backup and a cloud based backup. On one hand I'm covered if either one of my physical drives die, and on the other hand, I'm covered if backblaze goes belly up or decides to screw me.

sounds pretty inexpensive, I wonder if you can backup a NAS? I could theoretically build a very big NAS and have the whole thing backed up, and could house different user workspaces....

I think you have to pay for a more expensive service to backup a NAS.

For the next stage of this, I'm actually planning to gut an old PC and use it solely as a backup source. Basically stick my 4TB drive in the PC, and access that drive via my network....should be a lot faster than a typical NAS as there is more processing power on tap. From there, I'd use backblaze on the PC to back everything up to the cloud.

So in lieu of trying to backup a NAS via backblaze, I'll run backblaze off of a networked PC housing all of my files.

Carlo, does backblaze do versioning? Say you accidentally delete a folder from your 4TB without realising, it will then delete off the cloud will it not? If you notice that aftervthe fact is there any way of looking back into an older archive to recover those files?

Not trying to be negative by the way! Just wanting to make sure you have your bases covered!

So i am tired of the OEM Sony strap that comes with the camera and am thinking i would prefer a small one that just goes around your hand. Are any of you guys using something like that, that you like?

try the spider light handstrap or the peak design clutch

i have a ton of spider holsters hehe.

my going out strolling kit is the spider light holster on my leather belt and a safety tether around my body sling style.

my travelling kit is the spider light 1 cam holster belt and the safety tether

be careful of bit rot though if you plan to use those archives later on...the cloud service is the perfect answer to that but im a very conservative thinker and i feel those pics in the cloud means they are going to be stolen later on....thats the paranoid me talking

So I looked into this...with the basic versions cloud based backup services you either have unlimited version periods and limited storage capacity, or limited version periods and unlimited storage capacity. Otherwise you end up paying a lot more.

Backblaze will allow you to recover versions from 30 days back.

Since I'm storing mainly cataloged photos, I think the risk of deleting anything by accident is pretty minor. Usually things I would have archived to the 4tb drive are stuff I would access on another device in read only, or in the case of something like raw files, move to a local drive or SSD so they process faster.

Fair point. But there's nothing sensitive being backed up. They're just photos...I'm not photographing anything risqué and a good number of them will be shared online anyway.

I'm more concerned about losing client files or my personal photos forever because a local drive fails.

I'm using the Gordy's camera strap on my A6500 and love it.

I’m using the Canon E1 handstrap. Always had one on my 1 Series camera’s over the years. I find they work well. Not sure if they still make them. I have a few versions. Good thing my wife is very talented as they are not easy to install. I bring up the diagram on Google and she does it, then adjusts it for me.
