i tested my Lumu Power Light Meter again and it's really cool. I can control the ambient and subject exposure by looking at the flash contribution. The overall exposure is 100%, if the flash contribution is like 40%, that means 60% of the exposure is contributed by the ambient light. that will give you a brighter ambient. If you want to make the ambient or background darker, just crank up your strobe and make a reading. If the resulting flash contribution is let's say 60%, vice versa it means the ambient is only 40% which makes the ambient more darker.
e.g.... the second image is what the lumu power light meter app looks like in flash mode.
My conclusion is to use the light meter whenever possible but still be mindful of the histogram as it still mess you up if the strobe don't have enough power.
