I've never been to a bowl game :(

I have two pieces of advice if you ever want to go.

1) Go to warm one!

2) Don't pay retail for your tickets unless it is completely unavoidable!

Mickey, if you had to guess....I could go to a swamp/mountain/beach anything with critters or
sit in a stand with thousands, which would I choose :)

Packaging matters yes, we all agree. So if you ever get the opportunity consider
Cardinal Camera and Video...so far at least on packaging (360) they are ahead of how
the big boys have been lately-

The cropping ability of the 42MP sensor is pretty amazing, and I could shoot any spot on the field from the 50 yard-line from the third row of the upper-deck.

Shooting from the sideline is ideal, of course, and maybe one of these years I'll get press passes for my father and I for one of these so we can shoot together down there. But what a luxury it is to have your own seat, have refreshments and easy access to bathrooms :)

A game of inches . . .

Cool shots!

A couple years back when working on my MBA I had access to student tickets for dirt cheap. Not 50 yard line, but lower bowls. I used to bring my camera to games, and it was a lot of fun shooting. Seats down at that level are too expensive, so I mainly just bring wide angles to shoot the stadiums these days lol.

Excuse the non Sony shots:

This was John O'Korn's freshman year....He transferred to Michigan where he was named the starter this season. His last game in his collegiate career was the few snaps he got at the outback bowl you shot.

Excellent array of football action you captured there, Carlo. It looks like you wee actually on the sidelines!

O'Korn couldn't find sustained success at Michigan, but he really seems like a standup guy.

Hehe yes. I miss those seats.

But yeah O'Korn has all the measurables of a prototypical QB, but was beat out by a guy who could run an option offense at Houston. I was pulling for O'Korn in Michigan, but it looks like it did not work out.

It would be interesting to see these photos with the blacks reduced just a bit, can you do that?

I should have thought to start this discussion before year’s end, but here is a fun subject to discuss on this GAS driven forum:

What was your favorite/best gear purchase in 2017?

What was your least favorite/worst gear purchase in 2017?

Can be anything from a lens pen to a camera. If you made zero purchase mistakes, just share the purchase that least excited you. I’ll start...

Favorite purchase: Zeiss Batis 135mm. Totally shocked by this, but somehow the lens just really delivers for me time and again. I bought the outstanding 100-400mm GM thinking I’d sell the Batis, but the size, weight, and wider aperture of the Batis won out and I sold the 100-400mm instead.

Made a lot of lens moves in 2017 and don’t regret any of them except maybe selling the CV 65mm (great lens, but just a bit too heavy/big for what I wanted from it).

Worst purchase: Zhiyun Crane. I thought it would be cool to do video, and I thought the Crane would give me smooth footage, but I just had zero patience for mastering it and video just proved too much a distraction from my photography.

Best: A7RIII - for me it was everything I wanted in the A7RII. Its a keeper and has eliminated any desire to acquire new Canon gear.

Least favorite: Peak Design strap. It just doesn't work for me.

That Batis 135 is stunning and I love your work with it.

My best gear purchase of 2017 was the CZ 135 1.8 ZA. I've wanted one for years, picked it up at the price of a used 135L, and it is as good as I wanted it to be.

My worst gear purchase of 2017 was a new MePhoto monopod I got for dirt cheap from B&H that I haven't used yet.

Best: tough tough pick but I think I'll go with the 12-24 slightly ahead of the R3. Maybe a different answer in a few months, but with the R3, missing SR has been the only flaw, but it's a pretty big one.

Least favorite: CV10, not because I didnt like it, but it was a royal PITA to get it repaired.

This is an article posted back in September 2017 about Sony's Kumamoto Sensor Factory.
Y'all should find it interesting. I did.

My favorite purchase of 2018 was my A7R II. Might have been my Mavic Pro if I’d bought it earlier in the year.

Worst was probably the Batis 25mm. Great lens, just finding the FL a bit awkward. I also regret that I sold my 35L to buy the Sigma 35 with adapter for the Sony and later sold the 35. 35 is my favorite and now all I have at 35 is the Canon 35 f/2 IS. Great little lens though for the money!
