I've seen your work Robert and I know better than that...but I do appreciate the compliment. Thanks very much.

I got my A7rIII yesterday. So far it's an interesting start. At the moment all I have is the body and a 28/2. I also ordered a 55/1.8 but I used GT and it has not shipped yet. I'm planning to also add an MC-11 and such, but I have not pressed the button on that order. So for now, it's the Sony and one lens.

First take - this is going to take a while to learn. I've been shooting Canon dSLRs for 12 years, and the Sony is a little bit familiar and a whole lot different.

Right now I just cannot give any kind of review. That's going to take months, really. I just wanted to stop in, say hi, and all that.

I'm mostly customizing. I put functions on all the buttons, set up the 'My menu" and "Fn". I imagine some of those choices are going to change as I learn what stuff I'm really messing with most of the time.

At one moment, the AF seems really awesome. I stabbed Eye-AF tonight in some practice shots and it was brilliant. I was messing with the smaller zone focus points yesterday and got a lot of bangs (not eyes) in focus. They used to tell my wife, it took you 9 months to have a baby, it will take at least a few more to get over it. It took me a long time to become an expert with a Canon dSLR, this is going to take a bit too.

welcome to the Sony side...it will take some time to adjust, like you I spent a dozen years wielding big heavy Canon bodies...the smaller form factor takes some getting used to but after a while it becomes home...

Alfredo's work on framing subjects with other objects inspired me to finally go back and edit this image from Lindale Mill last April. I just never got around to working on it, and it is another that I used Lumenzia on, I think I am going to get back to that...its easy to really work the files from the Sony...but there is a quality of light that gets lost doing too much, and this image was a good example of that...pushing the shadows too much on the interior side of the window made them muddy, rescuing too much in the highlights took out too much contrast. So I might be doing more of that in the future...using the right exposures and manually blending again...because unlike many, I do enjoy the editing process.

It's a funny thing. On paper, the FF mirrorless isn't much of a size and weight savings over dSLR. And yeah....the big, fast zooms are all about the same size.

But when I got the A7rIII and actually had it in hand, it's a lot smaller. And with the 28/2 on it (and presumably the 55/1.8 in a pocket too) the rig is small in a way my 5D3 never is. It's not quite my old Panasonic GF-1, but closer to that than it is to my 5D3.

yeah, when I first started looking at the Sony bodies, the weight wasn't going to be that much of a deal, and one piece at a time, it isn't...but when you start to use native lenses, they are smaller, and lighter and you can fit more in a pack and carry less weight...I carried more on my hikes last year in one pack than I ever would have with the Canon kit...the weight when added up was much less, which made it more tolerable on tougher hikes...

If this is your first Sony mirrorless camera Jeffrey, you'll also love just how much you can push the highlights/shadows sliders around on those raw files and just how big those 42mb images are.

Congratulations on your new Sony.
Customization is one of the big positives with the Sony bodies.
Just last night I changed one of my Function buttons to MR. I can keep my eye on the
viewfinder, hit Fn, hit MR then select 1 (for BIF) 2 (perched) 3 (flash).
At the same time I have the AF-on set to a Reg. Custom Set and that to a Recall Custom Hold.
Point? That is is crazy how much you can dial in exactly what you want for a particular scenario
and get at it instantly!

Daunting at first but lovable soon thereafter!

The other thing I still find remarkable about mirrorless is Zebra and seeing realtime what I'll get---meaning
no holding the camera away from my body and gimping for the blinkies and even better when I change any
parameter I see it instantly in the EVF-how cool is that!

I shot this subject as a candidate for "the blues" weekly submission. I either suck at aquarium photography, or the aquarium glass destroys lens sharpness (both likely true). I didn't get a single sharp shot and the thicker the glass, the blurrier the shot.

Glad to hear I inspired you in some small way Travis. Thank you. I like the texture of the paint near the window and of course, your choice of framing the scene. I also enjoy the process of taking the raw ingredients (bracketed shots) and blending them using Lumenzia to produce something in which I have some control.

Felt good to use my Batis 18 again. It had been relegated to my shelf while I was using the 16-35 GM. I'm also glad I didn't sell it because it has just that extra bit of crispness you find in a high performing prime.

Used the SR app at 256 shots to blur the students out. Then I blended in a darker frame for the highlights.

Love the colors and the movement of the jellyfish David. I also want to say I really want to give the Loxia 35 another shot based on your Atlanta cityscape shot you posted on your Flickr page. Just excellent!
