Sony Lounge Thread MKIII (All Sony cameras welcome)

FYI, I contacted sony support regarding EFCS automatic, crop mode button, and star eater. I looks like they are taking the issue seriously and will be making a firmware update for it. I got an email reply that looked to have been written by a real person by the name of Jorge rather than previous canned response. He addressed my concerns point by point and working on a resolution. I'm glad to see that sony is listening and responsive.

lol, did you get it via GT? I have the sigma 135 coming in for evaluation today and probably for the next year. After that, it's gotta be the soul searching with the 12-24 and 16-35. Why do I have to choose? Why cant I own both

Sony customer service is on point IMO. I've been very impressed. It seems they are trying to turn their reputation around.

practice compositing. The model was shot by the A9. It's a goodbye to A9 today and guess what, I don't have a GAS with it.

Nice work Vinz. I have to say I've never been a fan of composites. They always look off to me. I guess I don't understand the appeal of composites.

And I think the AF behavior I was looking for is the "Pre AF" setting. I had it switched off because somebody on YT told me too.

David, you'll want to disable Pre-AF; otherwise, the AF will hunt. I hope you resolve your AF issues. I myself am trying to remember how to get face lock working again. You know that big green box around your subject's head.

After upgrading the firmware on my Metabones adapter, I tested AF performance yesterday evening. It did much better at 200mm but only if my son was not moving much. AF totally failed when shooting some action shots of my son on his scooter coming towards me. I realize that's a tough test for the AF system of any camera. I had maybe one keeper out a hundred that I shot. I would like to get the Sony 70-200 f2.8 lens but I'm not sure I would use it enough.

It seems that the a9 has a dual pixel type pdaf system that plays very nicely with adapted glass. Hopefully this AF system makes it into other Sony bodies.

first curtain shutter being automatic. bulb to 1/400, use electronic first curtain, and faster, use the mechanical shutter.

we know those to be the values where the electronic curtain can be an issue, so just make it automatic. Seems that sony support is aware of that issue as well as they specifically addressed it. It's one less thing to fiddle with.

Nice that you were able to get a photograph of this classic car without a lot of distractions in the frame. Super lighting too.

Nice job keeping yourself out of the reflections too.

I had a chance to play with my new wide angle macro lens for a few minutes. This was taken using ambient light with the camera mounted on a tabletop tripod. The settings were f22 @ 1.6 sec and iso 200.

That could be a pretty nifty tool to use Gene...wide angle macro is something very interesting, and new.

So...the FE50 is here...as usual, its smaller than I thought from pictures...but most noticeable, is the front element is not only much smaller than expected for an f/1.4 lens, but it is also concave...recessed INTO the lens...is this part of the Planar T* design to control flare?

So now I just have to hang out at work for another 2 hours...then I can go home and play with the new toy.

Congrats Travis. It's always fun to play with a new lens or camera to see what it's capable of. I hope it meets your expectations.
