I had a chance to play with my new wide angle macro lens for a few minutes. This was taken using ambient light with the camera mounted on a tabletop tripod. The settings were f22 @ 1.6 sec and iso 200.

That could be a pretty nifty tool to use Gene...wide angle macro is something very interesting, and new.

So...the FE50 is here...as usual, its smaller than I thought from pictures...but most noticeable, is the front element is not only much smaller than expected for an f/1.4 lens, but it is also concave...recessed INTO the lens...is this part of the Planar T* design to control flare?

So now I just have to hang out at work for another 2 hours...then I can go home and play with the new toy.

UPS just drove right past my house..... what in the world? They better come back!

LOL....we are in a small office building, its just us...but the office manager usually only works 1/2 days, and no one else can actually see the front doors, so our UPS guy usually announces himself when he comes in...and then today he says...its just stuff for Travis, the rest of yall can stay seated...made me laugh...he was right...it was my lens and my Bose SoundLinkMini...

first curtain shutter being automatic. bulb to 1/400, use electronic first curtain, and faster, use the mechanical shutter.

we know those to be the values where the electronic curtain can be an issue, so just make it automatic. Seems that sony support is aware of that issue as well as they specifically addressed it. It's one less thing to fiddle with.

Not just bulb but with everyday shooting, keep efcs enabled and the camera automatically turns it off at a set shutter speed - that would be the ideal

Nice that you were able to get a photograph of this classic car without a lot of distractions in the frame. Super lighting too.

Nice job keeping yourself out of the reflections too. ;-)a

Thanks Gene. When I arrived, the parking lot was jammed packed with really neat classic cars, but the afternoon sunlight was harsh and I couldn't get a clear shot of any single car. A couple hours later the near-golden hour light was much improved and all the cars were gone except this one.

BTW, I used my Gene Lewis School of Post-processing knowledge to darken down the background, which really brought out the car. :)

Ok one decision made....

In August I will be selling the Lox 21 and FE 55 and getting the 16-35 GM. Its not as huge as I thought and if it follows other GMs it will be close to the lox.

Still trying to figure out the A9..... dont want to wait till fall but imagine there will be some "christmas" deals out then.

Decisions to be made? 70-200gm or 100-400 gm depending on which way I go I could sell off the 90 mac and 70-300 right away to pick either of those up

If the a9 fits your needs, go for it. I decided that the feature set made my decision easy. I was able to get mine new for $500 off, so $3,998 made it easier to pay. I don't doubt that the a9 is a specialized camera and the upcoming a7iii might be the better camera for the masses but I don't think they'll make the a7iii simply the underclocked a9, there's bound to be some sort of compromises.

As much as the deals are coming, I'd rather pay less for a camera than get a memory card thrown in or some sort of lens rebate being thrown in.

Right now with my a9, 24-70GM and 85 1.8 I'm extremely pleased. Still deciding on a 35 option so decided to wait and see what the Sigma 35mm ends up being like. My next lens will be the 70-200GM and I should be set.
