Ok one decision made....

In August I will be selling the Lox 21 and FE 55 and getting the 16-35 GM. Its not as huge as I thought and if it follows other GMs it will be close to the lox.

Still trying to figure out the A9..... dont want to wait till fall but imagine there will be some "christmas" deals out then.

Decisions to be made? 70-200gm or 100-400 gm depending on which way I go I could sell off the 90 mac and 70-300 right away to pick either of those up

I look forward to some feedback on your results when you do this - very interesting

If the a9 fits your needs, go for it. I decided that the feature set made my decision easy. I was able to get mine new for $500 off, so $3,998 made it easier to pay. I don't doubt that the a9 is a specialized camera and the upcoming a7iii might be the better camera for the masses but I don't think they'll make the a7iii simply the underclocked a9, there's bound to be some sort of compromises.

As much as the deals are coming, I'd rather pay less for a camera than get a memory card thrown in or some sort of lens rebate being thrown in.

Right now with my a9, 24-70GM and 85 1.8 I'm extremely pleased. Still deciding on a 35 option so decided to wait and see what the Sigma 35mm ends up being like. My next lens will be the 70-200GM and I should be set.

Im for sure in for the A9 have a buyer for my 6500 but I see the A9 fitting my all around needs so much better and then the A7rII will relegate to Landscape which is its arena anyway

So...some quick testing...no time to put the images together to share yet...have yard work to do...

the FE50 has more swirl to the bokeh in the background, and at f/1.4 is more onion shaped than the bokeh from the Sigma...a little bummed about that. The FE50 is also like 1mm longer...there is a definite zoom when I switched to it...not much, and I did it all tripod mounted, and only swapped the lenses...now, the FE50 is not Batis fast for AF, but it is 85GM speed, and faster than the Sigma 50ART. the Art hunted forever at first to lock on focus...the FE just nailed it...and its sharp. Is there any noticeable difference in sharpness...not that I can see...but the 50ART is an incredibly sharp lens, so that was going to be hard to beat. Color is a little different, not much. Corrected in post it is the same. I will have to see how it does shooting a session...will test out when my daughter gets home tonight...

in the meantime...a shot of her from the beach...I have done this shot on the same spot for the last 3 years...different pose this year. and edited with a Fuji Neopan preset, shot at ISO 3200 to try to get some film grain to it...this was the shooting conditions that the Sigma was failing to find focus in...and made me so mad, with kids, you can't tell them to hold on, the camera isn't cooperating...so, for no other reason, the focus speed of the FE will end up winning me over.

thanks. for a more natural light shooter, i think a 1.4 is a must.

if you wanna be an all-around shooter, the A9 is an excellent addition to your armory if $$$ is not a problem. Especially when you shoot weddings. Like Gene said, what's up with the higher IQ RII if you miss the shot.

out of all the reviews forthcoming on the 100-400 .... I am most anticipating yours. Did you ever test the 70-200gm?

Thanks. As you might be able to tell, I'm really enjoying my new lens. I believe this was at f22. I just put the camera on the ground in portrait orientation, tried to bend down low enough to check the LCD, saw that almost everything had yellow focus confirmation highlights and snapped the shutter. :-)

For me it was a matter of the 35 at fast aperture creating more interesting documentary shots than a 24-70 zoom.I found myself using my rx1rii more than the 24-70 GM for paid stuff hah. I like having 35 on one body and 85 on another

And yes I'm happy with the a9. It's not a g.a.s sexy type happy, but it's one hell of a workhorse and a great compliment to the a7RII. Shot my first event with it last weekend and it was smooth as butter.
